श्रीशुक उवाच क्वचिद्वनाशाय मनो दधद्व्रजात्प्रातःसमुत्थाय वयस्यवत्सपान् । प्रबोधयञ्छृङ्गरवेण चारुणा विनिर्गतो वत्सपुरःसरो हरिः ॥ १०-१२-१ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: O King, one day Kṛṣṇa decided to take His breakfast as a picnic in the forest. Having risen early in the morning, He blew His bugle made of horn and woke all the cowherd boys and calves with its beautiful sound. Then Kṛṣṇa and the boys, keeping their respective groups of calves before them, proceeded from Vrajabhūmi to the forest. ॥ 10-12-1 ॥

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा : हे राजन्, एक दिन कृष्ण ने जंगल में विहार करते हुए कलेवा करना चाहा। उन्होंने बड़े सुबह उठ कर सींग का बिगुल बजाया तथा उसकी मधुर आवाज से ग्वालबालों तथा बछड़ों को जगाया। फिर कृष्ण तथा सारे बालक अपने अपने बछड़ों के समूहों को आगे करके व्रजभूमि से जंगल की ओर बढ़े। ॥ १०-१२-१ ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेनैव साकं पृथुकाः सहस्रशः स्निग्धाः सुशिग्वेत्रविषाणवेणवः । स्वान्स्वान्सहस्रोपरि सङ्ख्ययान्वितान् वत्सान् पुरस्कृत्य विनिर्ययुर्मुदा ॥ १०-१२-२ ॥
At that time, hundreds and thousands of cowherd boys came out of their respective homes in Vrajabhūmi and joined Kṛṣṇa, keeping before them their hundreds and thousands of groups of calves. The boys were very beautiful, and they were equipped with lunch bags, bugles, flutes, and sticks for controlling the calves. ॥ 10-12-2 ॥

उस समय लाखों ग्वालबाल व्रजभूमि में अपने अपने घरों से बाहर आ गये और अपने साथ के लाखों बछड़ों की टोलियों को अपने आगे करके कृष्ण से आ मिले। ये बालक अतीव सुन्दर थे। उनके पास कलेवा की पोटली, बिगुल, वंशी तथा बछड़े चराने की लाठियाँ थीं। ॥ १०-१२-२ ॥

tenaiva sAkaM pRthukAH sahasrazaH snigdhAH suzigvetraviSANaveNavaH । svAnsvAnsahasropari saGkhyayAnvitAn vatsAn puraskRtya viniryayurmudA ॥ 10-12-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकृष्णवत्सैरसङ्ख्यातैर्यूथीकृत्य स्ववत्सकान् । चारयन्तोऽर्भलीलाभिर्विजह्रुस्तत्र तत्र ह ॥ १०-१२-३ ॥
Along with the cowherd boys and their own groups of calves, Kṛṣṇa came out with an unlimited number of calves assembled. Then all the boys began to sport in the forest in a greatly playful spirit. ॥ 10-12-3 ॥

कृष्ण ग्वालबालों तथा उनके बछड़ों के समूहों के साथ बाहर निकले तो असंख्य बछड़े एकत्र हो गये। तब सारे लडक़ों ने जंगल में परम प्रसन्न होकर खेलना प्रारम्भ कर दिया। ॥ १०-१२-३ ॥

Although all these boys were already decorated by their mothers with ornaments of kāca, guñjā, pearls and gold, when they went into the forest they further decorated themselves with fruits, green leaves, bunches of flowers, peacock feathers and soft minerals. ॥ 10-12-4 ॥

यद्यपि इन बालकों की माताओं ने पहले से इन्हें काच, गुञ्जा, मोती तथा सोने के आभूषणों से सजा रखा था किन्तु फिर भी जंगल में जाकर उन्होंने फलों, हरी पत्तियों, फूलों के गुच्छों, मोरपंखों तथा गेरू से अपने को सजाया। ॥ १०-१२-४ ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptमुष्णन्तोऽन्योन्यशिक्यादीन् ज्ञातानाराच्च चिक्षिपुः । तत्रत्याश्च पुनर्दूराद्धसन्तश्च पुनर्ददुः ॥ १०-१२-५ ॥
All the cowherd boys used to steal one another’s lunch bags. When a boy came to understand that his bag had been taken away, the other boys would throw it farther away, to a more distant place, and those standing there would throw it still farther. When the proprietor of the bag became disappointed, the other boys would laugh, the proprietor would cry, and then the bag would be returned. ॥ 10-12-5 ॥

सारे ग्वालबाल एक-दूसरे की कलेवा की पोटली चुराने लगे। जब कोई बालक जान जाता कि उसकी पोटली चुरा ली गयी है, तो दूसरे लडक़े उसे दूर फेंक देते और वहाँ पर खड़े बालक उसे और दूर फेंक देते। जब पोटली का मालिक निराश हो जाता तो दूसरे बालक हँस पड़ते और मालिक रो देता तब वह पोटली उसे लौटा दी जाती। ॥ १०-१२-५ ॥
