    सुपर्णस्कन्धमारूढो मेरुश‍ृङ्गमिवाम्बुदः । पीतवासा मणिग्रीवः कुर्वन् वितिमिरा दिशः ॥ ४-३०-५ ॥suparNaskandhamArUDho meruza‍RGgamivAmbudaH । pItavAsA maNigrIvaH kurvan vitimirA dizaH ॥ 4-30-5 ॥The Personality of Godhead, appearing on the shoulder of Garuḍa, seemed like a cloud resting on the summit of the mountain known as Meru. The transcendental body of the Personality of Godhead was covered by attractive yellow garments, and His neck was decorated with the jewel known as Kaustubha-maṇi. The bodily effulgence of the Lord dissipated all the darkness of the universe. ॥ 4-30-5 ॥

    दशवर्षसहस्रान्ते पुरुषस्तु सनातनः । तेषामाविरभूत्कृच्छ्रं शान्तेन शमयन् रुचा ॥ ४-३०-४ ॥dazavarSasahasrAnte puruSastu sanAtanaH । teSAmAvirabhUtkRcchraM zAntena zamayan rucA ॥ 4-30-4 ॥At the end of ten thousand years of severe austerities performed by the Pracetās, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, to reward their austerities, appeared before them in His very pleasing form. This appealed to the Pracetās and satisfied the labor of their austerities. ॥ 4-30-4 ॥

    मैत्रेय उवाच प्रचेतसोऽन्तरुदधौ पितुरादेशकारिणः । जपयज्ञेन तपसा पुरञ्जनमतोषयन् ॥ ४-३०-३ ॥maitreya uvAca pracetaso'ntarudadhau piturAdezakAriNaH । japayajJena tapasA puraJjanamatoSayan ॥ 4-30-3 ॥The great sage Maitreya said: The sons of King Prācīnabarhi, known as the Pracetās, underwent severe austerities within the seawater to carry out the order of their father. By chanting and repeating the mantras given by Lord Śiva, they were able to satisfy Lord Viṣṇu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ॥ 4-30-3 ॥

    किं बार्हस्पत्येह परत्र वाथ कैवल्यनाथप्रियपार्श्ववर्तिनः । आसाद्य देवं गिरिशं यदृच्छया प्रापुः परं नूनमथ प्रचेतसः ॥ ४-३०-२ ॥kiM bArhaspatyeha paratra vAtha kaivalyanAthapriyapArzvavartinaH । AsAdya devaM girizaM yadRcchayA prApuH paraM nUnamatha pracetasaH ॥ 4-30-2 ॥My dear Bārhaspatya, what did the sons of King Barhiṣat, known as the Pracetās, obtain after meeting Lord Śiva, who is very dear to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the bestower of liberation? Certainly they were transferred to the spiritual world, but apart from that, what did they obtain within this material world, either in this life or in other lives? ॥ 4-30-2 ॥

    विदुर उवाच ये त्वयाभिहिता ब्रह्मन् सुताः प्राचीनबर्हिषः । ते रुद्रगीतेन हरिं सिद्धिमापुः प्रतोष्य काम् ।vidura uvAca ye tvayAbhihitA brahman sutAH prAcInabarhiSaH । te rudragItena hariM siddhimApuH pratoSya kAm ।Vidura inquired from Maitreya: O brāhmaṇa, you formerly spoke about the sons of Prācīnabarhi and informed me that they satisfied the Supreme Personality of Godhead by chanting a song composed by Lord Śiva. What did they achieve in this way? ॥ 4-30-1 ॥

    कालकन्या जरा साक्षाल्लोकस्तां नाभिनन्दति । स्वसारं जगृहे मृत्युः क्षयाय यवनेश्वरः ॥ ४-२०-२२ ॥kAlakanyA jarA sAkSAllokastAM nAbhinandati । svasAraM jagRhe mRtyuH kSayAya yavanezvaraH ॥ 4-20-22 ॥What was described as Kālakanyā should be understood as old age. No one wants to accept old age, but Yavaneśvara ॥ Yavana-rāja॥, who is death, accepts Jarā ॥ old age॥ as his sister. ॥ 4-29-22 ॥

    संवत्सरश्चण्डवेगः कालो येनोपलक्षितः । तस्याहानीह गन्धर्वा गन्धर्व्यो रात्रयः स्मृताः । हरन्त्यायुः परिक्रान्त्या षष्ट्युत्तरशतत्रयम् ॥ ४-२९-२१ ॥saMvatsarazcaNDavegaH kAlo yenopalakSitaH । tasyAhAnIha gandharvA gandharvyo rAtrayaH smRtAH । harantyAyuH parikrAntyA SaSTyuttarazatatrayam ॥ 4-29-21 ॥What was previously explained as Caṇḍavega, powerful time, is covered by days and nights, named Gandharvas and Gandharvīs. The body’s life span is gradually reduced by the passage of days and nights, which number 360. ॥ 4-29-21 ॥

    आकूतिर्विक्रमो बाह्यो मृगतृष्णां प्रधावति । एकादशेन्द्रियचमूः पञ्चसूना विनोदकृत् ॥ ४-२९-२० ॥AkUtirvikramo bAhyo mRgatRSNAM pradhAvati । ekAdazendriyacamUH paJcasUnA vinodakRt ॥ 4-29-20 ॥and the working senses are the five external processes. The eleven senses are the soldiers. Being engrossed in sense enjoyment, the living entity, seated on the chariot, hankers after fulfillment of his false desires and runs after sense enjoyment life after life. ॥ 4-29-20 ॥

    मनोरश्मिर्बुद्धिसूतो हृन्नीडो द्वन्द्वकूबरः । पञ्चेन्द्रियार्थप्रक्षेपः सप्तधातुवरूथकः ॥ ४-२९-१९ ॥manorazmirbuddhisUto hRnnIDo dvandvakUbaraH । paJcendriyArthaprakSepaH saptadhAtuvarUthakaH ॥ 4-29-19 ॥and the mind is considered to be the rope. Intelligence is the chariot driver. The heart is the sitting place in the chariot, and the dualities of life, such as pleasure and pain, are the knotting place. The seven elements are the coverings of the chariot, ॥ 4-29-19 ॥

    देहो रथस्त्विन्द्रियाश्वः संवत्सररयोऽगतिः । द्विकर्मचक्रस्त्रिगुणध्वजः पञ्चासुबन्धुरः ॥ ४-२९-१८ ॥deho rathastvindriyAzvaH saMvatsararayo'gatiH । dvikarmacakrastriguNadhvajaH paJcAsubandhuraH ॥ 4-29-18 ॥Nārada Muni continued: What I referred to as the chariot was in actuality the body. The senses are the horses that pull that chariot. As time passes, year after year, these horses run without obstruction, but in fact they make no progress. Pious and impious activities are the two wheels of the chariot. The three modes of material nature are the chariot’s flags. The five types of life air constitute the living entity’s bondage, ॥ 4-29-18 ॥
