    यथाज्ञस्तमसा युक्त उपास्ते व्यक्तमेव हि । न वेद पूर्वमपरं नष्टजन्मस्मृतिस्तथा ॥ ६-१-४९ ॥yathAjJastamasA yukta upAste vyaktameva hi । na veda pUrvamaparaM naSTajanmasmRtistathA ॥ 6-1-49 ॥As a sleeping person acts according to the body manifested in his dreams and accepts it to be himself, so one identifies with his present body, which he acquired because of his past religious or irreligious actions, and is unable to know his past or future lives. ॥ 6-1-49 ॥

    सम्भवन्ति हि भद्राणि विपरीतानि चानघाः । कारिणां गुणसङ्गोऽस्ति देहवान् न ह्यकर्मकृत् ॥ ६-१-४४ ॥sambhavanti hi bhadrANi viparItAni cAnaghAH । kAriNAM guNasaGgo'sti dehavAn na hyakarmakRt ॥ 6-1-44 ॥O inhabitants of Vaikuṇṭha, you are sinless, but those within this material world are all karmīs, whether acting piously or impiously. Both kinds of action are possible for them because they are contaminated by the three modes of nature and must act accordingly. One who has accepted a material body cannot be inactive, and sinful action is inevitable for one acting under the modes of material nature. Therefore all the living entities within this material world are punishable. ॥ 6-1-44 ॥

    सूर्योऽग्निः खं मरुद्गावः सोमः सन्ध्याहनी दिशः । कं कुः स्वयं धर्म इति ह्येते दैह्यस्य साक्षिणः ॥ ६-१-४२ ॥sUryo'gniH khaM marudgAvaH somaH sandhyAhanI dizaH । kaM kuH svayaM dharma iti hyete daihyasya sAkSiNaH ॥ 6-1-42 ॥The sun, fire, sky, air, demigods, moon, evening, day, night, directions, water, land and Supersoul Himself all witness the activities of the living entity. ॥ 6-1-42 ॥

    श्रीशुक उवाच इत्युक्ते यमदूतैस्तैर्वासुदेवोक्तकारिणः । तान् प्रत्यूचुः प्रहस्येदं मेघनिर्ह्रादया गिरा ॥ ६-१-३७ ॥zrIzuka uvAca ityukte yamadUtaistairvAsudevoktakAriNaH । tAn pratyUcuH prahasyedaM meghanirhrAdayA girA ॥ 6-1-37 ॥Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: Being thus addressed by the messengers of Yamarāja, the servants of Vāsudeva smiled and spoke the following words in voices as deep as the sound of rumbling clouds. ॥ 6-1-37 ॥

    सर्वे च नूत्नवयसः सर्वे चारुचतुर्भुजाः । धनुर्निषङ्गासिगदाशङ्खचक्राम्बुजश्रियः ॥ ६-१-३५ ॥sarve ca nUtnavayasaH sarve cArucaturbhujAH । dhanurniSaGgAsigadAzaGkhacakrAmbujazriyaH ॥ 6-1-35 ॥and wearing very attractive helmets on your heads and earrings on your ears, you all appear fresh and youthful. Your four long arms are decorated with bows and quivers of arrows and with swords, clubs, conchshells, discs and lotus flowers. ॥ 6-1-35 ॥

    निशम्य म्रियमाणस्य ब्रुवतो हरिकीर्तनम् । भर्तुर्नाम महाराज पार्षदाः सहसापतन् ॥ ६-१-३० ॥nizamya mriyamANasya bruvato harikIrtanam । bharturnAma mahArAja pArSadAH sahasApatan ॥ 6-1-30 ॥My dear King, the order carriers of Viṣṇu, the Viṣṇudūtas, immediately arrived when they heard the holy name of their master from the mouth of the dying Ajāmila, who had certainly chanted without offense because he had chanted in complete anxiety. ॥ 6-1-30 ॥

    बन्द्यक्षकैतवैश्चौर्यैर्गर्हितां वृत्तिमास्थितः । बिभ्रत्कुटुम्बमशुचिर्यातयामास देहिनः ॥ ६-१-२२ ॥bandyakSakaitavaizcauryairgarhitAM vRttimAsthitaH । bibhratkuTumbamazuciryAtayAmAsa dehinaH ॥ 6-1-22 ॥This fallen brāhmaṇa, Ajāmila, gave trouble to others by arresting them, by cheating them in gambling or by directly plundering them. This was the way he earned his livelihood and maintained his wife and children. ॥ 6-1-22 ॥

    सकृन्मनः कृष्णपदारविन्दयोर्निवेशितं तद्गुणरागि यैरिह । न ते यमं पाशभृतश्च तद्भटान् स्वप्नेऽपि पश्यन्ति हि चीर्णनिष्कृताः ॥ ६-१-१९ ॥sakRnmanaH kRSNapadAravindayornivezitaM tadguNarAgi yairiha । na te yamaM pAzabhRtazca tadbhaTAn svapne'pi pazyanti hi cIrNaniSkRtAH ॥ 6-1-19 ॥Although not having fully realized Kṛṣṇa, persons who have even once surrendered completely unto His lotus feet and who have become attracted to His name, form, qualities and pastimes are completely freed of all sinful reactions, for they have thus accepted the true method of atonement. Even in dreams, such surrendered souls do not see Yamarāja or his order carriers, who are equipped with ropes to bind the sinful. ॥ 6-1-19 ॥

    प्रायश्चित्तानि चीर्णानि नारायणपराङ्मुखम् । न निष्पुनन्ति राजेन्द्र सुराकुम्भमिवापगाः ॥ ६-१-१८ ॥prAyazcittAni cIrNAni nArAyaNaparAGmukham । na niSpunanti rAjendra surAkumbhamivApagAH ॥ 6-1-18 ॥My dear King, as a pot containing liquor cannot be purified even if washed in the waters of many rivers, nondevotees cannot be purified by processes of atonement even if they perform them very well. ॥ 6-1-18 ॥
