किं ब्रह्मणस्सर्वपितामहस्य सर्वस्य धातुश्चतुराननस्य । इहाऽऽगतो वानररूपधारी रक्षोपसंहारकरः प्रकोपः ॥ ५-५४-३६
'Or is it Grandfather Brahma, the supreme fourfaced god enraged and arrived in the form of vanara to kill the clan of demons? ॥ 5-54-36॥

kiM brahmaNassarvapitAmahasya sarvasya dhAtuzcaturAnanasya । ihA''gato vAnararUpadhArI rakSopasaMhArakaraH prakopaH ॥ 5-54-36
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकिं वैष्णवं वा कपिरूपमेत्य रक्षोविनाशाय परं सुतेजः । अनन्तमव्यक्तमचिन्त्यमेकं स्वमायया साम्प्रतमागतं वा ॥ ५-५४-३७
'Can he be the vast boundless energy, the unthinkable and infinite lord Visnu assuming the monkeyform? Is he the peerless, unmanifest form beyond all imagination who has arrived here by virtue of his Maya (illusory power) in order to destroy the demons?' ॥ 5-54-37॥

kiM vaiSNavaM vA kapirUpametya rakSovinAzAya paraM sutejaH । anantamavyaktamacintyamekaM svamAyayA sAmpratamAgataM vA ॥ 5-54-37
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्येवमूचुर्बहवो विशिष्टा रक्षोगणास्तत्र समेत्य सर्वे । सप्राणिसङ्घां सगृहां सवृक्षां दग्धां पुरीं तां सहसा समीक्ष्य ॥ ५-५४-३८
All eminent demons having collected together, quickly surveyed the situation.Seeing the burnt city, with all its living creatures, houses and trees consigned to the flames, they spoke to one another. ॥ 5-54-38॥

ityevamUcurbahavo viziSTA rakSogaNAstatra sametya sarve । saprANisaGghAM sagRhAM savRkSAM dagdhAM purIM tAM sahasA samIkSya ॥ 5-54-38
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततस्तु लङ्का सहसा प्रदग्धा सराक्षसा साश्वरथा सनागा । सपक्षिसङ्घा समृगा सवृक्षा रुरोद दीना तुमुलं सशब्दम् ॥ ५-५४-३९
Lanka with its chariots horses, elephants, flocks of birds, animals and trees burnt all of a sudden, the ogres cried loudly and piteously. ॥ 5-54-39॥

tatastu laGkA sahasA pradagdhA sarAkSasA sAzvarathA sanAgA । sapakSisaGghA samRgA savRkSA ruroda dInA tumulaM sazabdam ॥ 5-54-39
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहा तात हा पुत्रक कान्त मित्र हा जीवितं भोगयुतं सुपुण्यम् । रक्षोभिरेवं बहुधा ब्रुवद्भि श्शब्दः कृतो घोरतरस्सुभीमः ॥ ५-५४-४०
'O My Father, O My beloved Son, O My dear One, O My Friend! alas, the life which is enjoyable, sacred and prosperous is destroyed in this way'. Saying this, the demons cried out dreadfully and loudly. ॥ 5-54-40॥

hA tAta hA putraka kAnta mitra hA jIvitaM bhogayutaM supuNyam । rakSobhirevaM bahudhA bruvadbhi zzabdaH kRto ghoratarassubhImaH ॥ 5-54-40
