वरयामासुरागम्य राजानो मुनिपुंगव । तेषां वरयतां कन्यां सर्वेषां पृथिवीक्षिताम् ॥ १-६६-१६
- oh ! Eminent ascetic, she has been sought after in marriage by many princes ( having heard my declaration that the bounty for Seetha is boldness alone ). To all of those kings who were beseeching for the girl - ॥ 1-66-16॥
english translation
varayAmAsurAgamya rAjAno munipuMgava । teSAM varayatAM kanyAM sarveSAM pRthivIkSitAm ॥ 1-66-16
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवीर्यशुल्केति भगवन्न ददामि सुतामहम् । ततः सर्वे नृपतयः समेत्य मुनिपुंगव ॥ १-६६-१७
- I have not given my daughter, saying that she will be given for a bounty of boldness. Oh ! Preeminent among ascetics thereafter many kings together . - ॥ 1-66-17॥
english translation
vIryazulketi bhagavanna dadAmi sutAmaham । tataH sarve nRpatayaH sametya munipuMgava ॥ 1-66-17
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमिथिलामभ्युपागम्य वीर्यं जिज्ञासवस्तदा । तेषां जिज्ञासमानानां शैवं धनुरुपाहृतम् ॥ १-६६-१८
- came to Mithila. Then they wanted to ascertain the calibre ( of the bow, vis-a-vis their own .). For them, those who wanted to ascertain the calibre of the bow, that bow of Shiva was fetched to their proximity. ॥ 1-66-18॥
english translation
mithilAmabhyupAgamya vIryaM jijJAsavastadA । teSAM jijJAsamAnAnAM zaivaM dhanurupAhRtam ॥ 1-66-18
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन शेकुर्ग्रहणे तस्य धनुषस्तोलनेऽपि वा । तेषां वीर्यवतां वीर्यमल्पं ज्ञात्वा महामुने ॥ १-६६-१९
- But they were incapable to joggle it, or even to catch hold of it. Oh ! great sage, on knowing the valour of those valorous ones as valueless - ॥ 1-66-19॥
english translation
na zekurgrahaNe tasya dhanuSastolane'pi vA । teSAM vIryavatAM vIryamalpaM jJAtvA mahAmune ॥ 1-66-19
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रत्याख्याता नृपतयस्तन्निबोध तपोधन । ततः परमकोपेन राजानो मुनिपुंगव ॥ १-६६-२०
- I countermanded them . oh ! ascetically wealthy Vishvamitra, by that you may know ( the sequel of it .). Then, oh ! eminent sage, those kings in a blind fury beleaguered Mithila - ॥ 1-66-20॥

pratyAkhyAtA nRpatayastannibodha tapodhana । tataH paramakopena rAjAno munipuMgava ॥ 1-66-20
