अभ्यधावत् सुसंक्रद्धं वसिष्ठं जपतां वरम् । हुङ्कारेणैव तान् सर्वान् निर्ददाह महानृषिः ॥ १-५५-६
- became extremely furious and rushed towards Vashishtha, the best among ascetics. Adorable sage Vashishtha, reduced them to ashes with just a 'humkara' (the loud 'hum' sound produced with the mouth). ॥ 1-55-6॥

abhyadhAvat susaMkraddhaM vasiSThaM japatAM varam । huGkAreNaiva tAn sarvAn nirdadAha mahAnRSiH ॥ 1-55-6
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते साश्वरथपादाता वसिष्ठेन महात्मना । भस्मीकृता मुहूर्तेन विश्वामित्रसुतास्तदा ॥ १-५५-७
The sage with vital spirit, Vashishta, then in a wink rendered those sons of Vishvamitra, along with their horses, chariots, and foot-soldiers to ashes. ॥ 1-55-7॥

te sAzvarathapAdAtA vasiSThena mahAtmanA । bhasmIkRtA muhUrtena vizvAmitrasutAstadA ॥ 1-55-7
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदृष्ट्वा विनाशितान् पुत्रान् बलं च सुमहायशाः । सव्रीडश्चिंतयाविष्टो विश्वामित्रोऽभवत्तदा ॥ १-५५-८
Seeing his sons and army destroyed the illustrious Vishvaamitra was filled with shame and anxiety. ॥ 1-55-8॥

dRSTvA vinAzitAn putrAn balaM ca sumahAyazAH । savrIDazciMtayAviSTo vizvAmitro'bhavattadA ॥ 1-55-8
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमुद्र इव निर्वेगो भग्नदंष्ट्र इवोरगः । उपरक्त इवादित्यः सद्यो निष्प्रभतां गतः ॥ १-५५-९
Like the ocean without waves or the snake bereft of fangs or the Sun eclipsed by Rahu, suddenly (Vishvaamitra) looked cheerless and dull. ॥ 1-55-9॥

samudra iva nirvego bhagnadaMSTra ivoragaH । uparakta ivAdityaH sadyo niSprabhatAM gataH ॥ 1-55-9
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहतपुत्रबलो दीनो लूनपक्ष इव द्विजः । हतसर्वबलोत्साहो निर्वेदं समपद्यत ॥ १-५५-१०
Having lost his sons and the army, like a bird with wings clipped, wretched, with pride vanished and confidence shattered Vishvamitra fell into despondency. ॥ 1-55-10॥
