यदि तुष्टो महादेव धनुर्वेदो ममानघ । साङ्गोपाङ्गोपनिषदः सरहस्यः प्रदीयताम् ॥ १-५५-१६
Oh ! Irreproachable one, Oh ! Mahadeva if you are pleased with me, make me an expert in Dhanurveda, the Holy Writ of Archery, with its complemental and supplemental Writs, and along with its summational Upanishad-s, together with its preternatural doctrines. [1-55-16]
english translation
यानि देवेषु चास्त्राणि दानवेषु महर्षिषु । गंधर्वयक्षरक्षस्सु प्रतिभांतु ममानघ ॥ १-५५-१७
Oh ! Irreproachable one whatever weapons are known to devatas, danavas, maharshis, gandharvas, yakshas, rakshasas, be revealed to me. [1-55-17]
english translation
तव प्रसादाद्भवतु देवदेव ममेप्सितम् । एवमस्त्विति देवेशो वाक्यमुक्त्वा गतस्तदा ॥ १-५५-१८
Oh ! Lord of the gods by your favour let my desire be fulfilled. Lord Mahadeva having said: 'Be it so' vanished. [1-55-18]
english translation
प्राप्य चास्त्राणि देवेशाद्विश्वामित्रो महाबलः । दर्पेण महता युक्तो दर्पपूर्णोऽभवत्तदा ॥ १-५५-१९
Rajarshi Vishvaamitra endowed with supreme power became very haughty. Having obtained the weapons, his insolence was greatly accentuated. [1-55-19]
english translation
विवर्धमानो वीर्येण समुद्र इव पर्वणि । हतं मेने तदा राम वसिष्ठमृषिसत्तमम् ॥ १-५५-२०
Like the sea during the full moon, with his increased power (blessed with the invincible strength of the weapons) Vishvaamitra thought the foremost of ascetics Vashishta was (already) slain. (It shows the height of the king's ignorance and arrogance). [1-55-20]
