भूयः खनत भद्रं वो विभेद्य वसुधातलम् अश्वहर्तारमासाद्य कृतार्थाश्च निवर्तत ॥ १-४०-११
- 'Rive the earth again and excavate, capture the one who has stolen the horse and return after having accomplished the purpose. Safety to you.' [1-40-11]
english translation
पितुर्वचनमासाद्य सगरस्य महात्मनः । षष्टिः पुत्रसहस्राणि रसातलमभिद्रवन् ॥ १-४०-१२
Receiving the command of their father, the magnanimous Sagara, his sixty thousand sons ran towards Rasatala (nether world). [1-40-12]
english translation
खन्यमाने ततस्तस्मिन् ददृशुः पर्वतोपमम् । दिशागजं विरूपाक्षं धारयन्तं महीतलम् ॥ १-४०-१३
While digging the earth there they beheld a mountain similar easterly elephant named Viruupaaksha, which was bearing the eastern side of earth's surface on its head. [1-40-13]
english translation
सपर्वतवनां कृत्स्नां पृथिवीं रघुनंदन । धारयामास शिरसा विरूपाक्षो महागजः ॥ १-४०-१४
Oh ! descendant of Raghu, the mighty elephant Virupaksha was holding on its head the entire earth with its mountains and forests. [1-40-14]
english translation
यदा पर्वणि काकुत्स्थ विश्रमार्थं महागजः । खेदाच्चालयते शीर्षं भूमिकंपस्तदा भवेत् ॥ १-४०-१५
O descendant of Kakustha when that mighty elephant shakes its head for rest from weariness on certain occasions days earthquake occurs. [1-40-15]
