श्रीशुक उवाच एवं शप्त्वा गतोऽगस्त्यो भगवान् नृप सानुगः । इन्द्रद्युम्नोऽपि राजर्षिर्दिष्टं तदुपधारयन् ।। ८-४-११ ।।

sanskrit

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: My dear King, after Agastya Muni had thus cursed King Indradyumna, the Muni left that place along with his disciples. Since the King was a devotee, he accepted Agastya Muni’s curse as welcome because it was the desire of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ।। 8-4-11 ।।

english translation

श्री शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने आगे कहा : हे राजा! अगस्त्य मुनि राजा इन्द्रद्युम्न को इस तरह शाप देने के बाद अपने शिष्यों समेत उस स्थान से चले गये। चूँकि राजा भक्त था अतएव उसने अगस्त्य मुनि के शाप का स्वागत किया क्योंकि भगवान् की ऐसी ही इच्छा थी। ।। ८-४-११ ।।

आपन्नः कौञ्जरीं योनिमात्मस्मृतिविनाशिनीम् । हर्यर्चनानुभावेन यद्गजत्वेऽप्यनुस्मृतिः ।। ८-४-१२ ।।

sanskrit

Therefore, although in his next life he got the body of an elephant, because of devotional service he remembered how to worship and offer prayers to the Lord. ।। 8-4-12 ।।

english translation

अतएव अगले जन्म में हाथी का शरीर प्राप्त करने पर भी भक्ति के कारण उसे यह स्मरण रहा कि भगवान् की पूजा और स्तुति किस तरह की जाती है। ।। ८-४-१२ ।।

एवं विमोक्ष्य गजयूथपमब्जनाभस्तेनापिपार्षदगतिं गमितेन युक्तः । गन्धर्वसिद्धविबुधैरुपगीयमानकर्माद्भुतं स्वभवनं गरुडासनोऽगात् ।। ८-४-१३ ‌‌।।

Upon delivering the King of the elephants from the clutches of the crocodile, and from material existence, which resembles a crocodile, the Lord awarded him the status of sārūpya-mukti. In the presence of the Gandharvas, the Siddhas and the other demigods, who were praising the Lord for His wonderful transcendental activities, the Lord, sitting on the back of His carrier, Garuḍa, returned to His all-wonderful abode and took Gajendra with Him. ।। 8-4-13 ।।

english translation

गजेन्द्र को घडिय़ाल के चंगुल से तथा इस भौतिक संसार से जो घडिय़ाल जैसा लगता है। घडिय़ाल जैसे ही इस भौतिक जगत छुड़ाकर भगवान् ने उसे सारूप्य मुक्ति प्रदान की। भगवान् के अद्भुत दिव्य कार्यकलापों का यश बखान करने वाले गन्धर्वों, सिद्धों तथा अन्य देवताओं की उपस्थिति में, भगवान् अपने वाहन गरुड़ की पीठ पर बैठकर अपने अद्भुत धाम को लौट गये और अपने साथ गजेन्द्र को भी लेते गये। ।। ८-४-१३ ।।

एतन्महाराज तवेरितो मया कृष्णानुभावो गजराजमोक्षणम् । स्वर्ग्यं यशस्यं कलिकल्मषापहं दुःस्वप्ननाशं कुरुवर्य श‍ृण्वताम् ।। ८-४-१४ ।।

sanskrit

My dear King Parīkṣit, I have now described the wonderful power of Kṛṣṇa, as displayed when the Lord delivered the King of the elephants. O best of the Kuru dynasty, those who hear this narration become fit to be promoted to the higher planetary systems. Simply because of hearing this narration, they gain a reputation as devotees, they are unaffected by the contamination of Kali-yuga, and they never see bad dreams. ।। 8-4-14 ।।

english translation

हे राजा परीक्षित! अब मैंने तुमसे कृष्ण की अद्भुत शक्ति का वर्णन कर दिया है, जिसे भगवान् ने गजेन्द्र का उद्धार करके प्रदर्शित किया था। हे कुरुश्रेष्ठ! जो लोग इस कथा को सुनते हैं, वे उच्चलोकों में जाने के योग्य बनते हैं। इस कथा के श्रवण मात्र से वे भक्त के रूप में ख्याति अर्जित करते हैं, वे कलियुग के कल्मष से अप्रभावित रहते हैं और कभी दु:स्वप्न नहीं देखते। ।। ८-४-१४ ।।

यथानुकीर्तयन्त्येतच्छ्रेयस्कामा द्विजातयः । शुचयः प्रातरुत्थाय दुःस्वप्नाद्युपशान्तये ।। ८-४-१५ ।।

sanskrit

Therefore, after getting up from bed in the morning, those who desire their own welfare — especially the brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas and in particular the brāhmaṇa Vaiṣṇavas — should chant this narration as it is, without deviation, to counteract the troubles of bad dreams. ।। 8-4-15 ।।

english translation

अतएव जो लोग अपना कल्याण चाहते हैं—विशेष रूप से ब्राह्मण, क्षत्रिय तथा वैश्य और इनमें से भी मुख्यत: ब्राह्मण वैष्णव—उन्हें प्रात:काल बिस्तर से उठकर अपने दु:स्वप्नों के कष्टों को दूर करने के लिए इस कथा का बिना विचलित हुए यथारूप पाठ करना चाहिए। ।। ८-४-१५ ।।
