सप्तद्वीपाधिपतयो नृपा वैन्यगयादयः । अर्थैः कामैर्गता नान्तं तृष्णाया इति नः श्रुतम् ॥ ८-१९-२३ ॥

sanskrit

We have heard that although powerful kings like Mahārāja Pṛthu and Mahārāja Gaya achieved proprietorship over the seven dvīpas, they could not achieve satisfaction or find the end of their ambitions. ॥ 8-19-23 ॥

english translation

हमने सुना है कि यद्यपि महाराज पृथु तथा महाराज गय जैसे शक्तिशाली राजाओं ने सातों द्वीपों पर स्वामित्व प्राप्त कर लिया था, किन्तु फिर भी उन्हें न तो सन्तोष प्राप्त हुआ न ही वे अपनी आकांक्षाओं का कोई अन्त पा सके। ॥ ८-१९-२३ ॥
