राजोवाच मन्वन्तरेषु भगवन् यथा मन्वादयस्त्विमे । यस्मिन् कर्मणि ये येन नियुक्तास्तद्वदस्व मे ।। ८-१४-१ ।।
Mahārāja Parīkṣit inquired: O most opulent Śukadeva Gosvāmī, please explain to me how Manu and the others in each manvantara are engaged in their respective duties, and by whose order they are so engaged. ।। 8-14-1 ।।

महाराज परीक्षित ने जिज्ञासा की : हे परम ऐश्वर्यशाली शुकदेव गोस्वामी! कृपा करके मुझे बतायें कि प्रत्येक मन्वन्तर में मनु तथा अन्य लोग किस तरह अपने-अपने कर्तव्यों में लगे रहते हैं और वे किसके आदेश से ऐसा करते हैं। ।। ८-१४-१ ।।

rAjovAca manvantareSu bhagavan yathA manvAdayastvime | yasmin karmaNi ye yena niyuktAstadvadasva me || 8-14-1 ||
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: The Manus, the sons of Manu, the great sages, the Indras and all the demigods, O King, are appointed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His various incarnations such as Yajña. ।। 8-14-2 ।।
english translation
शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा : हे राजा! सारे मनु, मनु के पुत्र, ऋषि, इन्द्र तथा देवता भगवान् के यज्ञ जैसे विविध अवतारों में नियुक्त किये जाते हैं। ।। ८-१४-२ ।।
O King, I have already described to you various incarnations of the Lord, such as Yajña. The Manus and others are chosen by these incarnations, under whose direction they conduct the universal affairs. ।। 8-14-3 ।।

हे राजा! मैं आपसे पहले ही भगवान् के विभिन्न अवतारों का वर्णन कर चुका हूँ—यथा यज्ञ अवतार का। यही अवतार मनुओं तथा अन्यों का चुनाव करते हैं और उन्हीं के आदेश पर वे विश्व-व्यवस्था का संचालन करते हैं। ।। ८-१४-३ ।।
At the end of every four yugas, the great saintly persons, upon seeing that the eternal occupational duties of mankind have been misused, reestablish the principles of religion. ।। 8-14-4 ।।

प्रत्येक चार युगों के अन्त में महान् सन्तपुरुष जब यह देखते हैं कि मानव के शाश्वत वृत्तिपरक कर्तव्यों का दुरुपयोग हुआ है, तो वे धर्म के सिद्धान्तों की पुन:स्थापना करते हैं। ।। ८-१४-४ ।।
Thereafter, O King, the Manus, being fully engaged according to the instructions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, directly reestablish the principles of occupational duty in its full four parts. ।। 8-14-5 ।।

हे राजा! तत्पश्चात् भगवान् के आदेशानुसार व्यस्त होकर सारे मनु चारों अंशों में धर्म की साक्षात् पुनर्स्थापना करते हैं। ।। ८-१४-५ ।।
