तयोर्निर्भिन्नहृदयस्तर्जनैर्जातवेपथुः । पथि श्वभिर्भक्ष्यमाण आर्तोऽघं स्वमनुस्मरन् ।। ३-३०-२१ ।।

sanskrit

While carried by the constables of Yamarāja, he is overwhelmed and trembles in their hands. While passing on the road he is bitten by dogs, and he can remember the sinful activities of his life. He is thus terribly distressed. ।। 3-30-21 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार यमराज के सिपाहियों द्वारा ले जाये जाते समय उसे दबाया-कुचला जाता है और उनके हाथों में वह काँपता रहता है। रास्ते में जाते समय उसे कुत्ते काटते हैं और उसे अपने जीवन के पापकर्म याद आते हैं। इस प्रकार वह अत्यधिक दुखी रहता है। ।। ३-३०-२१ ।।

क्षुत्तृट् परीतोऽर्कदवानलानिलैः सन्तप्यमानः पथि तप्तवालुके । कृच्छ्रेण पृष्ठे कशया च ताडितः चलत्यशक्तोऽपि निराश्रमोदके ।। ३-३०-२२ ।।

Under the scorching sun, the criminal has to pass through roads of hot sand with forest fires on both sides. He is whipped on the back by the constables because of his inability to walk, and he is afflicted by hunger and thirst, but unfortunately there is no drinking water, no shelter and no place for rest on the road. ।। 3-30-22 ।।

english translation

अपराधी को चिलचिलाती धूप में गर्म बालू के रास्ते से होकर जाना पड़ता है, जिसके दोनों ओर दावाग्नि जलती रहती है। चलने में असमर्थता के कारण सिपाही उसकी पीठ पर कोड़े लगाते हैं और वह भूख तथा प्यास से व्याकुल हो जाता है। किन्तु दुर्भाग्यवश रास्ते भर न तो पीने के लिए जल रहता है, न विश्राम करने के लिए कोई आश्रय मिलता है। ।। ३-३०-२२ ।।

तत्र तत्र पतन् श्रान्तो मूर्च्छितः पुनरुत्थितः । पथा पापीयसा नीतस्तरसा यमसादनम् ।। ३-३०-२३ ।।

sanskrit

While passing on that road to the abode of Yamarāja, he falls down in fatigue, and sometimes he becomes unconscious, but he is forced to rise again. In this way he is very quickly brought to the presence of Yamarāja. ।। 3-30-23 ।।

english translation

यमराज के धाम के मार्ग पर वह थकान से गिरता-पड़ता जाता है और कभी-कभी अचेत हो जाता है, किन्तु उसे पुन: उठने के लिए बाध्य किया जाता है। इस प्रकार उसे तेजी से यमराज के समक्ष लाया जाता है। ।। ३-३०-२३ ।।

Thus he has to pass ninety-nine thousand yojanas within two or three moments, and then he is at once engaged in the torturous punishment which he is destined to suffer. ।। 3-30-24 ।।

english translation

इस तरह से ९९ हजार योजन की दूरी उसे दो या तीन पलों में पार करनी होती है और फिर तुरन्त उसे घोर यातना दी जाती है, जिसे सहना पड़ता है। ।। ३-३०-२४ ।।

He is placed in the midst of burning pieces of wood, and his limbs are set on fire. In some cases he is made to eat his own flesh or have it eaten by others. ।। 3-30-25 ।।

english translation

वहाँ उसे जलती लकडिय़ों के बीच में रख दिया जाता है और उसके अंगों में आग लगा दी जाती है। कभी-कभी उसे अपना मांस स्वयं खाने के लिए बाध्य किया जाता है अथवा अन्यों द्वारा खाने दिया जाता है। ।। ३-३०-२५ ।।
