मैत्रेय उवाच अवधार्य विरिञ्चस्य निर्व्यलीकामृतं वचः । प्रहस्य प्रेमगर्भेण तदपाङ्गेन सोऽग्रहीत् ॥ ३-१९-१ ॥
Śrī Maitreya said: After hearing the words of Brahmā, the creator, which were free from all sinful purposes and as sweet as nectar, the Lord heartily laughed and accepted his prayer with a glance laden with love. ॥ 3-19-1 ॥
english translation
श्री मैत्रेय ने कहा—स्रष्टा ब्रह्मा के निष्पाप, निष्कपट तथा अमृत के समान मधुर वचनों को सुनकर भगवान् जीभरकर हँसे और उन्होंने प्रेमपूर्ण चितवन के साथ उनकी प्रार्थना स्वीकार कर ली। ॥ ३-१९-१ ॥

ततः सपत्नं मुखतश्चरन्तमकुतोभयम् । जघानोत्पत्य गदया हनावसुरमक्षजः ॥ ३-१९-२ ॥
The Lord, who had appeared from the nostril of Brahmā, sprang and aimed His mace at the chin of His enemy, the Hiraṇyākṣa demon, who was stalking fearlessly before Him. ॥ 3-19-2 ॥

ब्रह्मा के नथुने से प्रकट भगवान् उछल पड़े और अपने सामने निर्भय होकर विचरण करने वाले अपने असुर शत्रु हिरण्याक्ष की ठोड़ी पर उन्होंने अपनी गदा से प्रहार किया। ॥ ३-१९-२ ॥

सा हता तेन गदया विहता भगवत्करात् । विघूर्णितापतद्रेजे तदद्भुतमिवाभवत् ॥ ३-१९-३ ॥
Struck by the demon’s mace, however, the Lord’s mace slipped from His hand and looked splendid as it fell down whirling. This was miraculous, for the mace was blazing wonderfully. ॥ 3-19-3 ॥
english translation
किन्तु असुर की गदा से टकराकर भगवान् की गदा उनके हाथ से छिटक गई और घूमती हुई जब वह नीचे गिरी तो अत्यन्त मनोरम लग रही थी। यह अद्भुत दृश्य था, क्योंकि गदा विचित्र ढंग से प्रकाशमान थी। ॥ ३-१९-३ ॥

स तदा लब्धतीर्थोऽपि न बबाधे निरायुधम् । मानयन् स मृधे धर्मं विष्वक्सेनं प्रकोपयन् ॥ ३-१९-४ ॥
Even though the demon had an excellent opportunity to strike his unarmed foe without obstruction, he respected the law of single combat, thereby kindling the fury of the Supreme Lord. ॥ 3-19-4 ॥
english translation
यद्यपि हिरण्याक्ष को अपने निरस्त्र शत्रु पर बिना किसी रुकावट के वार करने का अच्छा अवसर प्राप्त हुआ था, किन्तु उसने युद्ध-धर्म का आदर किया जिससे कि श्रीभगवान् का रोष बढ़ जाए। ॥ ३-१९-४ ॥

गदायामपविद्धायां हाहाकारे विनिर्गते । मानयामास तद्धर्मं सुनाभं चास्मरद्विभुः ॥ ३-१९-५ ॥
As the Lord’s mace fell to the ground and a cry of alarm arose from the witnessing crowd of gods and ṛṣis, the Personality of Godhead acknowledged the demon’s love of righteousness and therefore invoked His Sudarśana discus. ॥ 3-19-5 ॥
english translation
ज्योंही भगवान् की गदा भूमि पर गिर गई और देखने वाले देवताओं तथा ऋषियों के समूह में हाहाकार मच गया, त्योंही श्रीभगवान् ने असुर की धर्मप्रियता की प्रशंसा की और फिर अपने सुदर्शन चक्र का आवाहन किया। ॥ ३-१९-५ ॥
