स तदा लब्धतीर्थोऽपि न बबाधे निरायुधम् । मानयन् स मृधे धर्मं विष्वक्सेनं प्रकोपयन् ॥ ३-१९-४ ॥

Even though the demon had an excellent opportunity to strike his unarmed foe without obstruction, he respected the law of single combat, thereby kindling the fury of the Supreme Lord. ॥ 3-19-4 ॥

english translation

यद्यपि हिरण्याक्ष को अपने निरस्त्र शत्रु पर बिना किसी रुकावट के वार करने का अच्छा अवसर प्राप्त हुआ था, किन्तु उसने युद्ध-धर्म का आदर किया जिससे कि श्रीभगवान् का रोष बढ़ जाए। ॥ ३-१९-४ ॥
