शतं सहस्रमयुतं रामस्तत्राददे पणम् । तं तु रुक्म्यजयत्तत्र कालिङ्गः प्राहसद्बलम् । दन्तान् सन्दर्शयन्नुच्चैर्नामृष्यत्तद्धलायुधः ॥ १०-६१-२९ ॥
In that match Lord Balarāma first accepted a wager of one hundred coins, then one thousand, then ten thousand. Rukmī won this first round, and the King of Kaliṅga laughed loudly at Lord Balarāma, showing all his teeth. Lord Balarāma could not tolerate this. ॥ 10-61-29 ॥

उस मुकाबले में भगवान बलराम ने पहले एक सौ मुद्राओं, फिर एक हजार, फिर दस हजार मुद्राओं का दांव स्वीकार किया। रुक्मी ने यह पहला दौर जीता, और कलिंग के राजा भगवान बलराम पर ज़ोर से हँसे, और अपने सारे दाँत दिखाए। भगवान बलराम को यह सहन नहीं हुआ। ॥ १०-६१-२९ ॥
