पाञ्चजन्यध्वनिं श्रुत्वा युगान्ताशनिभीषणम् । मुरः शयान उत्तस्थौ दैत्यः पञ्चशिरा जलात् ।। १०-५९-६ ।।

sanskrit

The five-headed demon Mura, who slept at the bottom of the city’s moat, awoke and rose up out of the water when he heard the vibration of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s Pāñcajanya conchshell, a sound as terrifying as the thunder at the end of the cosmic age. ।। 10-59-6 ।।

english translation

पांच सिरों वाला राक्षस मुरा, जो शहर की खाई के नीचे सोया हुआ था, जाग गया और पानी से बाहर आ गया जब उसने भगवान कृष्ण के पांचजन्य शंख की कंपन सुनी, जो ब्रह्मांडीय युग के अंत में गड़गड़ाहट के समान भयानक थी। ।। १०-५९-६ ।।

त्रिशूलमुद्यम्य सुदुर्निरीक्षणो युगान्तसूर्यानलरोचिरुल्बणः । ग्रसंस्त्रिलोकीमिव पञ्चभिर्मुखैरभ्यद्रवत्तार्क्ष्यसुतं यथोरगः ।। १०-५९-७ ।।

sanskrit

Shining with the blinding, terrible effulgence of the sun’s fire at the end of a millennium, Mura seemed to be swallowing up the three worlds with his five mouths. He lifted up his trident and fell upon Garuḍa, the son of Tārkṣya, like an attacking snake. ।। 10-59-7 ।।

english translation

एक सहस्राब्दी के अंत में सूर्य की अग्नि की चकाचौंध, भयानक चमक से चमकते हुए, मुरा अपने पांच मुखों से तीनों लोकों को निगलता हुआ प्रतीत हो रहा था। उसने अपना त्रिशूल उठाया और हमलावर साँप की तरह तार्क्ष्य पुत्र गरुड़ पर टूट पड़ा। ।। १०-५९-७ ।।

आविध्य शूलं तरसा गरुत्मते निरस्य वक्त्रैर्व्यनदत्स पञ्चभिः । स रोदसी सर्वदिशोऽम्बरं महानापूरयन्नण्डकटाहमावृणोत् ।। १०-५९-८ ।।

Mura whirled his trident and then hurled it fiercely at Garuḍa, roaring from all five mouths. The sound filled the earth and sky, all directions and the limits of outer space, until it reverberated against the very shell of the universe. ।। 10-59-8 ।।

english translation

मुरा ने अपना त्रिशूल घुमाया और फिर उसे पांचों मुखों से गर्जना करते हुए गरुड़ पर भयंकर रूप से फेंका। ध्वनि ने पृथ्वी और आकाश, सभी दिशाओं और बाहरी अंतरिक्ष की सीमाओं को तब तक भर दिया, जब तक कि यह ब्रह्मांड के आवरण तक गूंज नहीं गई। ।। १०-५९-८ ।।

तदापतद्वै त्रिशिखं गरुत्मते हरिः शराभ्यामभिनत्त्रिधौजसा । मुखेषु तं चापि शरैरताडयत्तस्मै गदां सोऽपि रुषा व्यमुञ्चत ।। १०-५९-९ ।।

Then with two arrows Lord Hari struck the trident flying toward Garuḍa and broke it into three pieces. Next the Lord hit Mura’s faces with several arrows, and the demon angrily hurled his club at the Lord. ।। 10-59-9 ।।

english translation

तब भगवान हरि ने दो बाणों से गरुड़ की ओर उड़ रहे त्रिशूल पर प्रहार किया और उसके तीन टुकड़े कर दिये। इसके बाद भगवान ने मुरा के चेहरे पर कई बाणों से प्रहार किया और राक्षस ने गुस्से में भगवान पर अपनी छड़ी फेंकी। ।। १०-५९-९ ।।

तामापतन्तीं गदया गदां मृधे गदाग्रजो निर्बिभिदे सहस्रधा । उद्यम्य बाहूनभिधावतोऽजितः शिरांसि चक्रेण जहार लीलया ।। १०-५९-१० ।।

As Mura’s club sped toward Him on the battlefield, Lord Gadāgraja intercepted it with His own and broke it into thousands of pieces. Mura then raised his arms high and rushed at the unconquerable Lord, who easily sliced off his heads with His disc weapon. ।। 10-59-10 ।।

english translation

जैसे ही मुरा की गदा युद्ध के मैदान में उनकी ओर बढ़ी, भगवान गदगराज ने उसे अपनी गदा से रोक लिया और उसके हजारों टुकड़े कर दिए। तब मुरा ने अपनी भुजाएँ ऊँची कीं और अजेय भगवान की ओर झपटा, जिन्होंने आसानी से अपने चक्र से उसका सिर काट दिया। ।। १०-५९-१० ।।
