तद्बलाबलवद्युद्धं समेताः सर्वयोषितः । ऊचुः परस्परं राजन् सानुकम्पा वरूथशः ।। १०-४४-६ ।।

sanskrit

My dear King, all the women present, considering the match an unfair fight between the strong and the weak, felt extreme anxiety due to compassion. They assembled in groups around the arena and spoke to one another as follows. ।। 10-44-6 ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, वहाँ पर उपस्थित सारी स्त्रियों ने बलवान् तथा निर्बल के बीच होने वाली इस अनुचित लड़ाई पर विचार करते हुए दया के कारण अत्यधिक चिन्ता का अनुभव किया। वे अखाड़े के चारों ओर झुंड की झुंड एकत्र हो गईं और परस्पर इस तरह बातें करने लगीं। ।। १०-४४-६ ।।

महानयं बताधर्म एषां राजसभासदाम् । ये बलाबलवद्युद्धं राज्ञोऽन्विच्छन्ति पश्यतः ।। १०-४४-७ ।।

sanskrit

[The women said:] Alas, what a greatly irreligious act the members of this royal assembly are committing! As the King watches this fight between the strong and the weak, they also want to see it. ।। 10-44-7 ।।

english translation

[स्त्रियों ने कहा] हाय! इस राजसभा के सदस्य यह कितना बड़ा अधर्म कर रहे हैं! जिस तरह राजा बलवान् तथा निर्बल के मध्य इस युद्ध को देख रहा है, वे भी उसी तरह इसे देखना चाहते हैं। ।। १०-४४-७ ।।

क्व वज्रसारसर्वाङ्गौ मल्लौ शैलेन्द्रसन्निभौ । क्व चातिसुकुमाराङ्गौ किशोरौ नाप्तयौवनौ ।। १०-४४-८ ।।

What comparison can there be between these two professional wrestlers, with limbs as strong as lightning bolts and bodies resembling mighty mountains, and these two young, immature boys with exceedingly tender limbs? ।। 10-44-8 ।।

english translation

कहाँ ये वज्र जैसे पुष्ट अंगों वाले तथा शक्तिशाली पर्वतों जैसे शरीर वाले दोनों पेशेवर पहलवान और कहाँ ये सुकुमार अंगों वाले किशोर अल्प-वयस्क बालक? ।। १०-४४-८ ।।

धर्मव्यतिक्रमो ह्यस्य समाजस्य ध्रुवं भवेत् । यत्राधर्मः समुत्तिष्ठेन्न स्थेयं तत्र कर्हिचित् ।। १०-४४-९ ।।

sanskrit

Religious principles have certainly been violated in this assembly. One should not remain for even a moment in a place where irreligion is flourishing. ।। 10-44-9 ।।

english translation

इस सभा में धर्म का निश्चय ही अति-क्रमण हो चुका है। जहाँ अधर्म पल रहा हो उस स्थान में एक पल भी नहीं रुकना चाहिए। ।। १०-४४-९ ।।

dharmavyatikramo hyasya samAjasya dhruvaM bhavet | yatrAdharmaH samuttiSThenna stheyaM tatra karhicit || 10-44-9 ||

न सभां प्रविशेत्प्राज्ञः सभ्यदोषाननुस्मरन् । अब्रुवन् विब्रुवन्नज्ञो नरः किल्बिषमश्नुते ।। १०-४४-१० ।।

sanskrit

A wise person should not enter an assembly if he knows the participants there are committing acts of impropriety. And if, having entered such an assembly, he fails to speak the truth, speaks falsely or pleads ignorance, he will certainly incur sin. ।। 10-44-10 ।।

english translation

बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति को चाहिए कि यदि वह जान ले कि किसी सभा के सभासद अनुचित कार्य कर रहे हैं, तो वह उस सभा में प्रवेश न करे। और यदि ऐसी सभा में प्रवेश कर लेने पर वह सत्यभाषण करने से चूक जाता है, या मिथ्या भाषण करता है या अज्ञानता की दुहाई देता है, तो वह निश्चित ही पाप का भागी बनता है। ।। १०-४४-१० ।।
