तं ब्रह्म परमं साक्षाद्भगवन्तमधोक्षजम् । मनुष्यदृष्ट्या दुष्प्रज्ञा मर्त्यात्मानो न मेनिरे ।। १०-२३-११ ।।

The brāhmaṇas saw Lord Kṛṣṇa as an ordinary human because of their perverted intelligence. They failed to recognize that He is the Supreme Absolute Truth, the directly manifest Personality of Godhead, whom the material senses cannot ordinarily perceive. Thus bewildered by their false identification with the mortal body, they did not show Him proper respect. ।। 10-23-11 ।।

english translation

किन्तु ब्राह्मणों ने अपनी विकृत बुद्धि के कारण भगवान् कृष्ण को सामान्य व्यक्ति के रूप में देखा। वे यह न समझ पाये कि वे परब्रह्म हैं, साक्षात् भगवान् हैं, जिन्हें भौतिक इन्द्रियाँ सामान्य रूप से अनुभव नहीं कर पातीं। अत: मर्त्य शरीर से अपनी झूठी पहचान करने से मोहित उन सबों ने भगवान् के प्रति उचित सम्मान प्रदर्शित नहीं किया। ।। १०-२३-११ ।।

न ते यदोमिति प्रोचुर्न नेति च परन्तप । गोपा निराशाः प्रत्येत्य तथोचुः कृष्णरामयोः ।। १०-२३-१२ ।।

When the brāhmaṇas failed to reply even with a simple yes or no, O chastiser of the enemy [Parīkṣit], the cowherd boys returned disappointed to Kṛṣṇa and Rāma and reported this to Them. ।। 10-23-12 ।।

english translation

जब वे ब्राह्मण हाँ या ना में भी उत्तर नहीं दे पाये तो हे परन्तप (परीक्षित), सारे ग्वालबाल निराश होकर कृष्ण तथा राम के पास लौट आये और उनको यह बात बतलाई। ।। १०-२३-१२ ।।

na te yadomiti procurna neti ca parantapa | gopA nirAzAH pratyetya tathocuH kRSNarAmayoH || 10-23-12 ||

तदुपाकर्ण्य भगवान् प्रहस्य जगदीश्वरः । व्याजहार पुनर्गोपान् दर्शयन् लौकिकीं गतिम् ।। १०-२३-१३ ।।

Hearing what had happened, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Lord of the universe, simply laughed. Then He again addressed the cowherd boys, showing them the way men act in this world. ।। 10-23-13 ।।

english translation

जो कुछ हुआ था उसे सुनकर ब्रह्माण्ड के स्वामी भगवान् हँसने लगे। तत्पश्चात् उन्होंने पुन: ग्वालबालों को इस जगत में जिस तरह लोग कर्म करते हैं उस मार्ग को दिखलाते हुए सम्बोधित किया। ।। १०-२३-१३ ।।

tadupAkarNya bhagavAn prahasya jagadIzvaraH | vyAjahAra punargopAn darzayan laukikIM gatim || 10-23-13 ||

मां ज्ञापयत पत्नीभ्यः ससङ्कर्षणमागतम् । दास्यन्ति काममन्नं वः स्निग्धा मय्युषिता धिया ।। १०-२३-१४ ।।

[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] Tell the wives of the brāhmaṇas that I have come here with Lord Saṅkarṣaṇa. They will certainly give you all the food you want, for they are most affectionate toward Me and, indeed, with their intelligence reside in Me alone. ।। 10-23-14 ।।

english translation

[भगवान् कृष्ण ने कहा]: ब्राह्मणपत्नियों से कहो कि मैं संकर्षण समेत यहाँ आया हूँ। वे अवश्य ही तुम्हें जितना भोजन चाहोगे उतना देंगी क्योंकि वे मेरे प्रति अत्यन्त स्नेहमयी हैं और वे अपनी बुद्धि से मुझमें ही निवास करती हैं। ।। १०-२३-१४ ।।

mAM jJApayata patnIbhyaH sasaGkarSaNamAgatam | dAsyanti kAmamannaM vaH snigdhA mayyuSitA dhiyA || 10-23-14 ||

गत्वाथ पत्नीशालायां दृष्ट्वासीनाः स्वलङ्कृताः । नत्वा द्विजसतीर्गोपाः प्रश्रिता इदमब्रुवन् ।। १०-२३-१५ ।।

The cowherd boys then went to the house where the brāhmaṇas’ wives were staying. There the boys saw those chaste ladies sitting, nicely decorated with fine ornaments. Bowing down to the brāhmaṇa ladies, the boys addressed them in all humility. ।। 10-23-15 ।।

english translation

तब ग्वालबाल उस घर में गये जहाँ ब्राह्मण पत्नियाँ ठहरी हुई थीं। वहाँ उन बालकों ने उन सती स्त्रियों को सुन्दर आभूषणों से अलंकृत होकर बैठे देखा। बालकों ने ब्राह्मण-पत्नियों को नमस्कार करते हुए विनीत भाव से उन्हें सम्बोधित किया। ।। १०-२३-१५ ।।
