ताः कृष्णमातरमपत्यमनुप्रविष्टां तुल्यव्यथाः समनुगृह्य शुचः स्रवन्त्यः । तास्ता व्रजप्रियकथाः कथयन्त्य आसन् कृष्णाननेऽर्पितदृशो मृतकप्रतीकाः ।। १०-१६-२१ ।।

sanskrit

Although the elder gopīs were feeling just as much distress as she and were pouring forth a flood of sorrowful tears, they had to forcibly hold back Kṛṣṇa’s mother, whose consciousness was totally absorbed in her son. Standing like corpses, with their eyes fixed upon His face, these gopīs each took turns recounting the pastimes of the darling of Vraja. ।। 10-16-21 ।।

english translation

यद्यपि प्रौढ़ गोपियों को उन्हीं के बराबर पीड़ा थी और उनमें शोकपूर्ण अश्रुओं की झड़ी लगी हुई थी किन्तु उन्होंने बलपूर्वक कृष्ण की माता को पकड़े रखा, जिनकी चेतना पूर्णतया अपने पुत्र में समा गयी थी। ये गोपियाँ शवों की तरह खड़ी रहकर, अपनी आँखें कृष्ण के मुख पर टिकाये, बारी बारी से व्रज के परम लाड़ले की लीलाएँ कहे जा रही थीं। ।। १०-१६-२१ ।।
