    परे ब्रह्मण्यनिर्देश्ये भगवत्यखिलात्मनि । युक्तात्मन्यफला आसन्नपुण्यस्येव सत्क्रियाः ॥ ७-५-४१ ॥pare brahmaNyanirdezye bhagavatyakhilAtmani । yuktAtmanyaphalA AsannapuNyasyeva satkriyAH ॥ 7-5-41 ॥Even though a person who has no assets in pious activities performs some good deed, it will have no result. Thus the weapons of the demons had no tangible effects upon Prahlāda Mahārāja because he was a devotee undisturbed by material conditions and fully engaged in meditating upon and serving the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is unchangeable, who cannot be realized by the material senses, and who is the soul of the entire universe. ॥ 7-5-41 ॥

    नदन्तो भैरवान्नादान् छिन्धि भिन्धीति वादिनः । आसीनं चाहनन् शूलैः प्रह्लादं सर्वमर्मसु ॥ ७-५-४० ॥nadanto bhairavAnnAdAn chindhi bhindhIti vAdinaH । AsInaM cAhanan zUlaiH prahlAdaM sarvamarmasu ॥ 7-5-40 ॥And they appeared extremely threatening. Making a tumultuous sound, shouting, “Chop him up! Pierce him!” they began striking Prahlāda Mahārāja, who sat silently, meditating upon the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ॥ 7-5-40 ॥

    नैरृतास्ते समादिष्टा भर्त्रा वै शूलपाणयः । तिग्मदंष्ट्रकरालास्यास्ताम्रश्मश्रुशिरोरुहाः ॥ ७-५-३९ ॥nairRtAste samAdiSTA bhartrA vai zUlapANayaH । tigmadaMSTrakarAlAsyAstAmrazmazruziroruhAH ॥ 7-5-39 ॥The demons ॥ Rākṣasas॥, the servants of Hiraṇyakaśipu, thus began striking the tender parts of Prahlāda Mahārāja’s body with their tridents. The demons all had fearful faces, sharp teeth and reddish, coppery beards and hair, ॥ 7-5-39 ॥

    सर्वैरुपायैर्हन्तव्यः सम्भोजशयनासनैः । सुहृल्लिङ्गधरः शत्रुर्मुनेर्दुष्टमिवेन्द्रियम् ॥ ७-५-३८ ॥sarvairupAyairhantavyaH sambhojazayanAsanaiH । suhRlliGgadharaH zatrurmunerduSTamivendriyam ॥ 7-5-38 ॥Just as uncontrolled senses are the enemies of all yogīs engaged in advancing in spiritual life, this Prahlāda, who appears to be a friend, is an enemy because I cannot control him. Therefore this enemy, whether eating, sitting or sleeping, must be killed by all means. ॥ 7-5-38 ॥

    परोऽप्यपत्यं हितकृद्यथौषधं स्वदेहजोऽप्यामयवत्सुतोऽहितः । छिन्द्यात्तदङ्गं यदुतात्मनोऽहितं शेषं सुखं जीवति यद्विवर्जनात् ॥ ७-५-३७ ॥paro'pyapatyaM hitakRdyathauSadhaM svadehajo'pyAmayavatsuto'hitaH । chindyAttadaGgaM yadutAtmano'hitaM zeSaM sukhaM jIvati yadvivarjanAt ॥ 7-5-37 ॥Although a medicinal herb, being born in the forest, does not belong to the same category as a man, if beneficial it is kept very carefully. Similarly, if someone outside one’s family is favorable, he should be given protection like a son. On the other hand, if a limb of one’s body is poisoned by disease, it must be amputated so that the rest of the body may live happily. Similarly, even one’s own son, if unfavorable, must be rejected, although born of one’s own body. ॥ 7-5-37 ॥

    विष्णोर्वा साध्वसौ किं नु करिष्यत्यसमञ्जसः । सौहृदं दुस्त्यजं पित्रोरहाद्यः पञ्चहायनः ॥ ७-५-३६ ॥viSNorvA sAdhvasau kiM nu kariSyatyasamaJjasaH । sauhRdaM dustyajaM pitrorahAdyaH paJcahAyanaH ॥ 7-5-36 ॥Although Prahlāda is only five years old, even at this young age he has given up his affectionate relationship with his father and mother. Therefore, he is certainly untrustworthy. Indeed, it is not at all believable that he will behave well toward Viṣṇu. ॥ 7-5-36 ॥

    अयं मे भ्रातृहा सोऽयं हित्वा स्वान् सुहृदोऽधमः । पितृव्यहन्तुर्यः पादौ विष्णोर्दासवदर्चति ॥ ७-५-३५ ॥ayaM me bhrAtRhA so'yaM hitvA svAn suhRdo'dhamaH । pitRvyahanturyaH pAdau viSNordAsavadarcati ॥ 7-5-35 ॥This boy Prahlāda is the killer of my brother, for he has given up his family to engage in the devotional service of the enemy, Lord Viṣṇu, like a menial servant. ॥ 7-5-35 ॥

    आहामर्षरुषाऽऽविष्टः कषायीभूतलोचनः । वध्यतामाश्वयं वध्यो निःसारयत नैरृताः ॥ ७-५-३४ ॥AhAmarSaruSA''viSTaH kaSAyIbhUtalocanaH । vadhyatAmAzvayaM vadhyo niHsArayata nairRtAH ॥ 7-5-34 ॥Indignant and angry, his reddish eyes like molten copper, Hiraṇyakaśipu said to his servants: O demons, take this boy away from me! He deserves to be killed. Kill him as soon as possible! ॥ 7-5-34 ॥
