The connection by which a sentence is formed is called Yoga. For example: Oil, cooked with Amritavalli, Nimba, Himsra, Abhaya, Vrikshaka, Pippali, the two kinds of Bala, and Devadaru, should be taken regularly as a remedy for Galaganda (goiter). Here, the term Siddham (cooked) is mentioned in the third quarter of the verse, while Pibet (should be taken) appears earlier, though both are interconnected in meaning. Thus, combining even distantly placed words within a sentence is termed as Yoga.

The meaning conveyed by a sutra, word, or phrase is termed Padartha (the substance or idea). Padarthas are numerous. For example, in the context of Snehana (oleation), Svedana (sudation), and Anjana (collyrium), two or three possible meanings might arise. However, the meaning that aligns with the context derived from preceding or subsequent references should be understood. For instance, when it is stated, "We shall expound the chapter on the origin of the Veda," one might question which Veda—since there are several, such as the Rigveda. Additionally, the root "Vid" has multiple meanings, such as "to inquire" or "to obtain." By analyzing the context of preceding or subsequent usage, one concludes that the intent is to discuss the origin of Ayurveda. This is an example of Padartha.
