क्षुद्रिका नाम सा हिक्का जत्रुमूलात् प्रधाविता | नाभिप्रवृत्ता या हिक्का घोरा गम्भीरनादिनी ||१२||

The hiccough known as Kshudrika arises from the root of the clavicle and is mild. The hiccough that starts from the navel and is severe, accompanied by a deep sound, is called Gambhira.

क्षुद्रिका नामक हिचकी हंसली के मूल से आती है और हल्की होती है। नाभि से शुरू होने वाली और तीव्र, गहरी आवाज वाली हिचकी को गम्भीरा कहते हैं।

शुष्कौष्ठकण्ठजिह्वास्यश्वासपार्श्वरुजाकरी | अनेकोपद्रवयुता गम्भीरा नाम सा स्मृता ||१३||

The hiccough called Gambhira is accompanied by dryness of the lips, mouth, throat, and tongue, and causes difficulty in breathing, pain in the sides, and various other afflictions.

गंभीरा नामक हिचकी के कारण होंठ, मुंह, गला और जीभ सूख जाती है, तथा सांस लेने में कठिनाई, बगल में दर्द और अन्य कई परेशानियां होती हैं।

मर्माण्यापीडयन्तीव सततं या प्रवर्तते | देहमायम्य वेगेन घोषयत्यतितृष्यतः | महाहिक्केति सा ज्ञेया सर्वगात्रप्रकम्पिनी ||१४||

The hiccough known as Maha-Hicca is characterized by continuous pain in the vital points (marmas), intense exertion, and forceful movements of the body. It causes the body to become weak and shaken, accompanied by a loud sound and severe thirst. This type of hiccough causes tremors in all the limbs and is considered a very intense form of hiccough.

महा-हिक्का के नाम से जानी जाने वाली हिचकी में शरीर के महत्वपूर्ण बिंदुओं (मर्म) में लगातार दर्द, अत्यधिक परिश्रम और शरीर की जोरदार हरकतें होती हैं। इससे शरीर कमज़ोर और काँपने लगता है, साथ ही तेज़ आवाज़ और तेज़ प्यास भी लगती है। इस तरह की हिचकी से सभी अंगों में कंपन होता है और इसे हिचकी का बहुत तीव्र रूप माना जाता है।

आयम्यते हिक्काऽतोङ्गानि यस्य दृष्टिश्चोर्ध्वं ताम्यते यस्य गाढम् | क्षीणोऽन्नद्विट् कासते यश्च हिक्की तौ द्वावन्त्यौ वर्जयेद्धिक्कमानौ ||१५||

The hiccough described in this verse involves a weakening or contraction of the body. It causes the eyes to become fixed upward, the vision dim, and leads to a deep exhaustion. Those suffering from this condition may experience a loss of appetite and persistent cough. Both types of hiccough—when they occur simultaneously—are to be avoided, as they are considered particularly harmful.

इस श्लोक में वर्णित हिचकी में शरीर का कमज़ोर होना या सिकुड़ना शामिल है। इससे आँखें ऊपर की ओर स्थिर हो जाती हैं, दृष्टि धुंधली हो जाती है, और गहरी थकावट होती है। इस स्थिति से पीड़ित लोगों को भूख कम लग सकती है और लगातार खांसी हो सकती है। दोनों प्रकार की हिचकी - जब वे एक साथ होती हैं - से बचना चाहिए, क्योंकि उन्हें विशेष रूप से हानिकारक माना जाता है।
