The verse explains that when hiccough ascends upwards, it is caused by an imbalance due to undigested food. The hiccough arising from this condition is called "Annaja" (food-related). It is specifically induced by the prolonged force of the "Yamala" type of hiccough, which occurs over an extended period and involves intense, recurring spasms.
