ज्ञेयानि तत्र भिषजा सुविनिश्चितानि पित्तप्रकोपजनितानि च कारणानि । हृद्गात्रतोदवमथुज्वरकण्ठधूममूर्च्छाकफस्रवणमूर्धरुजो विदाहः ॥२१॥
The causes of symptoms, which are well-determined by skilled physicians, and which arise due to the aggravation of Pitta, include: heart pain, bodily pain, fever, throat discomfort, coughing, fainting, nasal discharge, headache, and burning sensations. These symptoms are indicative of the disturbances caused by excessive wine consumption, especially when it leads to Pitta imbalance.

The wise individuals, who are free from attachment to intoxicating substances, refrain from consuming wine in excessive or distorted forms. They avoid it, especially when it leads to a loss of mental clarity. When faced with symptoms like bitterness, excessive cold, and a lack of proper digestion due to improper wine consumption, they discard it, even if it appears to have some temporary appeal, such as the gloss of oil or luster.

Those who consume wine experience various adverse effects such as blackened or bluish discoloration of the tongue, lips, and teeth, and their eyes may appear bloodshot. Additionally, they suffer from symptoms like hiccups, fever, vomiting, trembling, side pains, coughing, dizziness, and other signs of distress caused by the harm done by excessive drinking.

A mixture of hingu (asafoetida) and sauvarchala (a type of salt) is to be used with a light medicinal preparation, in combination with fruits like amra (mango), kaamra (a type of fruit), dāḍima (pomegranate), and mātulunga (a sour citrus fruit). These should be given for the relief of discomfort caused by wine consumption, along with ṣāḍavapānaka (medicated drinks containing six tastes), to bring about the desired positive effects.
