तं तद्वदार्तमुपलभ्य जगन्निवासः स्तोत्रं निशम्य दिविजैः सह संस्तुवद्भिः । छन्दोमयेन गरुडेन समुह्यमानश्चक्रायुधोऽभ्यगमदाशु यतो गजेन्द्रः ।। ८-३-३१ ।।

After understanding the awkward condition of Gajendra, who had offered his prayers, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, who lives everywhere, appeared with the demigods, who were offering prayers to Him. Carrying His disc and other weapons, He appeared there on the back of His carrier, Garuḍa, with great speed, according to His desire. Thus He appeared before Gajendra. ।। 8-3-31 ।।

english translation

गजेन्द्र के प्रार्थना करने के कारण उसकी विकट स्थिति को समझने के पश्चात् सर्वत्र निवास करने वाले भगवान् हरि देवताओं समेत वहाँ प्रकट हुए। ये देवता उनकी स्तुति कर रहे थे। अपने हाथों में चक्र तथा अन्य आयुध लिए और अपने वाहन गरुड़ की पीठ पर सवार होकर वे तीव्र गति से अपनी इच्छानुसार गजेन्द्र के समक्ष प्रकट हुए। ।। ८-३-३१ ।।

taM tadvadArtamupalabhya jagannivAsaH stotraM nizamya divijaiH saha saMstuvadbhiH | chandomayena garuDena samuhyamAnazcakrAyudho'bhyagamadAzu yato gajendraH || 8-3-31 ||

सोऽन्तःसरस्युरुबलेन गृहीत आर्तो दृष्ट्वा गरुत्मति हरिं ख उपात्तचक्रम् । उत्क्षिप्य साम्बुजकरं गिरमाह कृच्छ्रान्नारायणाखिलगुरो भगवन्नमस्ते ।। ८-३-३२ ।।

Gajendra had been forcefully captured by the crocodile in the water and was feeling acute pain, but when he saw that Nārāyaṇa, wielding His disc, was coming in the sky on the back of Garuḍa, he immediately took a lotus flower in his trunk, and with great difficulty due to his painful condition, he uttered the following words: “O my Lord, Nārāyaṇa, master of the universe, O Supreme Personality of Godhead, I offer my respectful obeisances unto You.” ।। 8-3-32 ।।

english translation

घडिय़ाल ने गजेन्द्र को जल में बलपूर्वक पकड़ रखा था जिससे वह अत्यधिक पीड़ा का अनुभव कर रहा था, किन्तु जब उसने देखा कि नारायण अपना चक्र घुमाते हुए गरुड़ की पीठ पर बैठ कर आकाश में आ रहे हैं, तो उसने तुरन्त ही अपनी सूंड़ में कमल का एक फूल ले लिया और अपनी वेदना के कारण अत्यन्त कठिनाई से निम्नलिखित शब्द कहे “हे भगवान्, नारायण, हे ब्रह्माण्ड के स्वामी! हे परमेश्वर! मैं आपको सादर नमस्कार करता हूँ।” ।। ८-३-३२ ।।

तं वीक्ष्य पीडितमजः सहसावतीर्य सग्राहमाशु सरसः कृपयोज्जहार । ग्राहाद्विपाटितमुखादरिणा गजेन्द्रं सम्पश्यतां हरिरमूमुचदुच्छ्रियाणाम् ।। ८-३-३३ ।।

Thereafter, seeing Gajendra in such an aggrieved position, the unborn Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, immediately got down from the back of Garuḍa by His causeless mercy and pulled the King of the elephants, along with the crocodile, out of the water. Then, in the presence of all the demigods, who were looking on, the Lord severed the crocodile’s mouth from its body with His disc. In this way He saved Gajendra, the King of the elephants. ।। 8-3-33 ।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् गजेन्द्र को ऐसी पीडि़त अवस्था में देखकर, अजन्मा भगवान् हरि तुरन्त अहैतुकी कृपावश गरुड़ की पीठ से नीचे उतरे और गजेन्द्र को घडिय़ाल समेत जल के बाहर खींच लाये। तब समस्त देवताओं की उपस्थिति में जो सारा दृश्य देख रहे थे, भगवान् ने अपने चक्र से घडिय़ाल के मुख को उसके शरीर से पृथक् कर दिया। इस प्रकार उन्होंने गजेन्द्र को बचा लिया। ।। ८-३-३३ ।।
