सोऽयं प्रतिहतो वज्रो मया मुक्तोऽसुरेऽल्पके । नाहं तदाददे दण्डं ब्रह्मतेजोऽप्यकारणम् ॥ ८-११-३६ ॥
But now, although the same thunderbolt has been released against a less important demon, it has been ineffectual. Therefore, although it was as good as a brahmāstra, it has now become useless like an ordinary rod. I shall therefore hold it no longer. ॥ 8-11-36 ॥

किन्तु, अब वही वज्र एक तुच्छ असुर पर छोड़े जाने पर भी प्रभावहीन हो गया है। अतएव ब्रह्मास्त्र जैसा होने पर भी यह मेरे लिए अब एक सामान्य डंडे की तरह व्यर्थ हो गया है। इसलिए अब मैं इसे धारण नहीं करूँगा। ॥ ८-११-३६ ॥
