अथाग्रे ऋषयः कर्माणीहन्तेऽकर्महेतवे । ईहमानो हि पुरुषः प्रायोऽनीहां प्रपद्यते ॥ ८-१-१४ ॥
Therefore, to enable people to reach the stage of activities that are not tinged by fruitive results, great saints first engage people in fruitive activities, for unless one begins by performing activities as recommended in the śāstras, one cannot reach the stage of liberation, or activities that produce no reactions. ॥ 8-1-14 ॥

अतएव लोगों को कर्मों की ऐसी अवस्था तक पहुँचने में समर्थ बनाने के लिए जो सकाम फलों से दूषित नहीं होते, बड़े-बड़े साधु पुरुष सर्वप्रथम लोगों को सकाम कर्म में लगाते हैं क्योंकि जब तक कोई शास्त्रानुमोदित कर्मों को सम्पन्न करना आरम्भ नहीं करता तब तक वह मुक्ति की अवस्था को या कर्मफल न उत्पन्न करने वाले कार्यों की अवस्था को प्राप्त नहीं होता। ॥ ८-१-१४ ।।
