मज्जायाः पङ्क्तिरुत्पन्ना बृहती प्राणतोऽभवत् । स्पर्शस्तस्याभवज्जीवः स्वरो देह उदाहृतः ।। ३-१२-४६ ।।

The art of writing verse, paṅkti, became manifested from the bone marrow, and that of bṛhatī, another type of verse, was generated from the life-breath of the lord of the living entities. Brahmā’s soul was manifested as the touch alphabets, his body as the vowels ।। 3-12-46 ।।
