तेजीयसामपि ह्येतन्न सुश्लोक्यं जगद्गुरो । यद्वृत्तमनुतिष्ठन् वै लोकः क्षेमाय कल्पते ॥ ३-१२-३१ ॥
Even though you are the most powerful being, this act does not suit you because your character is followed for spiritual improvement by people in general. ॥ 3-12-31 ॥

यद्यपि आप सर्वाधिक शक्तिमान जीव हैं, किन्तु यह कार्य आपको शोभा नहीं देता क्योंकि सामान्य लोग आध्यात्मिक उन्नति के लिए आपके चरित्र का अनुकरण करते हैं। ॥ ३-१२-३१ ॥

तस्मै नमो भगवते य इदं स्वेन रोचिषा । आत्मस्थं व्यञ्जयामास स धर्मं पातुमर्हति ॥ ३-१२-३२ ॥
Let us offer our respectful obeisances unto the Personality of Godhead, who, by His own effulgence, while situated in Himself, has manifested this cosmos. May He also protect religion for all goodness. ॥ 3-12-32 ॥

हम उन भगवान् को सादर नमस्कार करते हैं जिन्होंने आत्मस्थ होकर अपने ही तेज से इस ब्रह्माण्ड को प्रकट किया है। वे समस्त कल्याण हेतु धर्म की रक्षा करें! ॥ ३-१२-३२ ॥

स इत्थं गृणतः पुत्रान् पुरो दृष्ट्वा प्रजापतीन् । प्रजापतिपतिस्तन्वं तत्याज व्रीडितस्तदा । तां दिशो जगृहुर्घोरां नीहारं यद्विदुस्तमः ॥ ३-१२-३३ ॥
The father of all Prajāpatis, Brahmā, thus seeing all his Prajāpati sons speaking in that way, became very much ashamed and at once gave up the body he had accepted. Later that body appeared in all directions as the dangerous fog in darkness. ॥ 3-12-33 ॥

अपने समस्त प्रजापति पुत्रों को इस प्रकार बोलते देख कर समस्त प्रजापतियों के पिता ब्रह्मा अत्यधिक लज्जित हुए और तुरन्त ही उन्होंने अपने द्वारा धारण किये हुए शरीर को त्याग दिया। बाद में वही शरीर अंधकार में भयावह कुहरे के रूप में सभी दिशाओं में प्रकट हुआ। ॥ ३-१२-३३ ॥

कदाचिद्ध्यायतः स्रष्टुर्वेदा आसंश्चतुर्मुखात् । कथं स्रक्ष्याम्यहं लोकान् समवेतान्यथा पुरा ॥ ३-१२-३४ ॥
Once upon a time, when Brahmā was thinking of how to create the worlds as in the past millennium, the four Vedas, which contain all varieties of knowledge, became manifested from his four mouths. ॥ 3-12-34 ॥

एक बार जब ब्रह्माजी यह सोच रहे थे कि विगत कल्प की तरह लोकों की सृष्टि कैसे की जाय तो चारों वेद, जिनमें सभी प्रकार का ज्ञान निहित है, उनके चारों मुखों से प्रकट हो गये। ॥ ३-१२-३४ ॥

चातुर्होत्रं कर्मतन्त्रमुपवेदनयैः सह । धर्मस्य पादाश्चत्वारस्तथैवाश्रमवृत्तयः ॥ ३-१२-३५ ॥
The four kinds of paraphernalia for conducting the fire sacrifice became manifest: the performer [the chanter], the offerer, the fire, and the action performed in terms of the supplementary Vedas. Also the four principles of religiosity [truth, austerity, mercy and cleanliness] and the duties in the four social orders all became manifest. ॥ 3-12-35 ॥

अग्नि यज्ञ को समाहित करने वाली चार प्रकार की साज-सामग्री प्रकट हुई। ये प्रकार हैं यज्ञकर्ता, होता, अग्नि तथा उपवेदों के रूप में सम्पन्न कर्म। धर्म के चार सिद्धान्त (सत्य, तप, दया, शौच) एवं चारों आश्रमों के कर्तव्य भी प्रकट हुए। ॥ ३-१२-३५ ॥
