श्रीभगवानुवाच यस्याहमनुगृह्णामि हरिष्ये तद्धनं शनैः । ततोऽधनं त्यजन्त्यस्य स्वजना दुःखदुःखितम् ।। १०-८८-८ ।।

sanskrit

The Personality of Godhead said: If I especially favor someone, I gradually deprive him of his wealth. Then the relatives and friends of such a poverty-stricken man abandon him. In this way he suffers one distress after another. ।। 10-88-8 ।।

english translation

भगवान ने कहा: यदि मैं विशेष रूप से किसी का पक्ष लेता हूं, तो मैं धीरे-धीरे उसे उसकी संपत्ति से वंचित कर देता हूं। तब ऐसे दरिद्र मनुष्य के परिजन और मित्र उसका त्याग कर देते हैं। इस तरह वह एक के बाद एक कष्ट झेलता है। ।। १०-८८-८ ।।
