एवं धार्ष्ट्यान्युशति कुरुते मेहनादीनि वास्तौ स्तेयोपायैर्विरचितकृतिः सुप्रतीको यथाऽऽस्ते । इत्थं स्त्रीभिः सभयनयनश्रीमुखालोकिनीभिः व्याख्यातार्था प्रहसितमुखी न ह्युपालब्धुमैच्छत् ।। १०-८-३१ ।।

sanskrit

“When Kṛṣṇa is caught in His naughty activities, the master of the house will say to Him, ‘Oh, You are a thief,’ and artificially express anger at Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa will then reply, ‘I am not a thief. You are a thief.’ Sometimes, being angry, Kṛṣṇa passes urine and stool in a neat, clean place in our houses. But now, our dear friend Yaśodā, this expert thief is sitting before you like a very good boy.” Sometimes all the gopīs would look at Kṛṣṇa sitting there, His eyes fearful so that His mother would not chastise Him, and when they saw Kṛṣṇa’s beautiful face, instead of chastising Him they would simply look upon His face and enjoy transcendental bliss. Mother Yaśodā would mildly smile at all this fun, and she would not want to chastise her blessed transcendental child. ।। 10-8-31 ।।

english translation

“जब कृष्ण नटखटपन करते पकड़े जाते हैं, तो घर के मालिक उससे कहते, “अरे चोर” और उस पर बनावटी क्रोध प्रकट करते। तब कृष्ण उत्तर देते, “मैं चोर नहीं हूँ। चोर तुम हो।” कभी कभी कृष्ण क्रोध में आकर हमारे साफ-सुथरे घरों में मल-मूत्र विसर्जन कर देता है। किन्तु हे सखी यशोदा, अब वही दक्ष चोर तुम्हारे सामने अच्छे लडक़े की तरह बैठा है।” कभी कभी सभी गोपियाँ कृष्ण को भयातुर आँखों किए बैठे देखती थीं, ताकि माता डांटे फटकारे नहीं और जब वे कृष्ण का सुन्दर मुखड़ा देखतीं तो उसे डाँटने की बजाय वे उनके मुखड़े को देखती ही रह जातीं और दिव्य आनन्द का अनुभव करतीं। माता यशोदा इस खिलवाड़ पर मन्द-मन्द मुसकातीं और उनका मन अपने भाग्यशाली दिव्य बालक को डाँटने को करता ही नहीं था। ।। १०-८-३१ ।।

एकदा क्रीडमानास्ते रामाद्या गोपदारकाः । कृष्णो मृदं भक्षितवानिति मात्रे न्यवेदयन् ।। १०-८-३२ ।।

sanskrit

One day while Kṛṣṇa was playing with His small playmates, including Balarāma and other sons of the gopas, all His friends came together and lodged a complaint to mother Yaśodā. “Mother,” they submitted, “Kṛṣṇa has eaten earth.” ।। 10-8-32 ।।

english translation

एक दिन जब कृष्ण अपने छोटे साथियों के साथ बलराम तथा अन्य गोप-पुत्रों सहित खेल रहे थे तो उनके सारे साथियों ने एकत्र होकर माता यशोदा से शिकायत की कि “कृष्ण ने मिट्टी खाई है।” ।। १०-८-३२ ।।

सा गृहीत्वा करे कृष्णमुपालभ्य हितैषिणी । यशोदा भयसम्भ्रान्तप्रेक्षणाक्षमभाषत ।। १०-८-३३ ।।

sanskrit

Upon hearing this from Kṛṣṇa’s playmates, mother Yaśodā, who was always full of anxiety over Kṛṣṇa’s welfare, picked Kṛṣṇa up with her hands to look into His mouth and chastise Him. Her eyes fearful, she spoke to her son as follows. ।। 10-8-33 ।।

english translation

कृष्ण के साथियों से यह सुनकर, हितैषिणी माता यशोदा ने कृष्ण के मुख के भीतर देखने तथा डाँटने के लिए उन्हें अपने हाथों से ऊपर उठा लिया। वे डरी डरी आँखों से अपने पुत्र से इस प्रकार बोलीं। ।। १०-८-३३ ।।

कस्मान्मृदमदान्तात्मन् भवान् भक्षितवान् रहः । वदन्ति तावका ह्येते कुमारास्तेऽग्रजोऽप्ययम् ।। १०-८-३४ ।।

sanskrit

Dear Kṛṣṇa, why are You so restless that You have eaten dirt in a solitary place? This complaint has been lodged against You by all Your playmates, including Your elder brother, Balarāma. How is this? ।। 10-8-34 ।।

english translation

हे कृष्ण, तुम इतने चंचल क्यों हो कि एकान्त स्थान में तुमने मिट्टी खा ली? यह शिकायत तुम्हारे बड़े भाई बलराम समेत तुम्हारे संगी-साथियों ने की है। यह क्योंकर हुआ? ।। १०-८-३४ ।।

श्रीकृष्ण उवाच नाहं भक्षितवानम्ब सर्वे मिथ्याभिशंसिनः । यदि सत्यगिरस्तर्हि समक्षं पश्य मे मुखम् ।। १०-८-३५ ।।

sanskrit

Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa replied: My dear mother, I have never eaten dirt. All My friends complaining against Me are liars. If you think they are being truthful, you can directly look into My mouth and examine it. ।। 10-8-35 ।।

english translation

श्रीकृष्ण ने उत्तर दिया, “हे माता, मैंने मिट्टी कभी नहीं खाई। मेरी शिकायत करने वाले मेरे सारे मित्र झूठे हैं। यदि आप सोचती हैं कि वे सच बोल रहे हैं, तो आप मेरे मुँह के भीतर प्रत्यक्ष देख सकती हैं। ।। १०-८-३५ ।।
