श्रीशुक उवाच एवं सम्प्रार्थितो विप्रः स्वचिकीर्षितमेव तत् । चकार नामकरणं गूढो रहसि बालयोः ॥ १०-८-११ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: Having thus been especially requested by Nanda Mahārāja to do that which he already desired to do, Garga Muni performed the name-giving ceremony for Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma in a solitary place. ॥ 10-8-11 ॥

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने आगे कहा : जब नन्द महाराज ने गर्गमुनि से विशेष प्रार्थना की कि वे जो कुछ पहले से करना चाहते थे उसे करें, तो उन्होंने एकान्त स्थान में कृष्ण तथा बलराम का नामकरण संस्कार सम्पन्न किया। ॥ १०-८-११ ॥

गर्ग उवाच अयं हि रोहिणीपुत्रो रमयन् सुहृदो गुणैः । आख्यास्यते राम इति बलाधिक्याद्बलं विदुः । यदूनामपृथग्भावात्सङ्कर्षणमुशन्त्युत ॥ १०-८-१२ ॥
Garga Muni said: This child, the son of Rohiṇī, will give all happiness to His relatives and friends by His transcendental qualities. Therefore He will be known as Rāma. And because He will manifest extraordinary bodily strength, He will also be known as Bala. Moreover, because He unites two families — Vasudeva’s family and the family of Nanda Mahārāja — He will be known as Saṅkarṣaṇa. ॥ 10-8-12 ॥

गर्गमुनि ने कहा : यह रोहिणी-पुत्र अपने दिव्य गुणों से अपने सम्बन्धियों तथा मित्रों को सभी तरह का सुख प्रदान करेगा। अत: यह राम कहलायेगा। और असाधारण शारीरिक बल का प्रदर्शन करने के कारण यह बलराम भी कहलायेगा। चूँकि यह दो परिवारों—वसुदेव तथा नन्द महाराज के परिवारों—को जोडऩे वाला है, अत: यह संकर्षण भी कहलायेगा। ॥ १०-८-१२ ॥

आसन् वर्णास्त्रयो ह्यस्य गृह्णतोऽनुयुगं तनूः । शुक्लो रक्तस्तथा पीत इदानीं कृष्णतां गतः ॥ १०-८-१३ ॥
Your son Kṛṣṇa appears as an incarnation in every millennium. In the past, He assumed three different colors — white, red and yellow — and now He has appeared in a blackish color. [In another Dvāpara-yuga, He appeared (as Lord Rāmacandra) in the color of śuka, a parrot. All such incarnations have now assembled in Kṛṣṇa.] ॥ 10-8-13 ॥

आपका यह पुत्र कृष्ण हर युग में अवतार के रूप में प्रकट होता है। भूतकाल में उसने तीन विभिन्न रंग—गौर, लाल तथा पीला—धारण किये और अब वह श्याम (काले) रंग में उत्पन्न हुआ है [अन्य द्वापर युग में वह शुक (तोता) के रंग में (भगवान् रामचन्द्र के रूप में) उत्पन्न हुआ। अब ऐसे सारे अवतार कृष्ण में एकत्र हो गये हैं]। ॥ १०-८-१३ ॥

प्रागयं वसुदेवस्य क्वचिज्जातस्तवात्मजः । वासुदेव इति श्रीमानभिज्ञाः सम्प्रचक्षते ॥ १०-८-१४ ॥
For many reasons, this beautiful son of yours sometimes appeared previously as the son of Vasudeva. Therefore, those who are learned sometimes call this child Vāsudeva. ॥ 10-8-14 ॥

अनेक कारणों से आपका यह सुन्दर पुत्र पहले कभी वसुदेव के पुत्र रूप में प्रकट हुआ था। अतएव जो विद्वान हैं, वे इस बालक को कभी कभी वासुदेव कहते हैं। ॥ १०-८-१४ ॥

बहूनि सन्ति नामानि रूपाणि च सुतस्य ते । गुणकर्मानुरूपाणि तान्यहं वेद नो जनाः ॥ १०-८-१५ ॥
For this son of yours there are many forms and names according to His transcendental qualities and activities. These are known to me, but people in general do not understand them. ॥ 10-8-15 ॥

तुम्हारे इस पुत्र के अपने दिव्य गुणों एवं कर्मों के अनुसार विविध रूप तथा नाम हैं। ये सब मुझे ज्ञात हैं किन्तु सामान्य लोग उन्हें नहीं जानते। ॥ १०-८-१५ ॥
