व्यक्तं मे कथयिष्यन्ति हसन्त्यो भ्रातृजामयः । क्लैब्यं कथं कथं वीर तवान्यैः कथ्यतां मृधे ॥ १०-७६-३१ ॥
Certainly My sisters-in-law will laugh at Me and say, ‘O hero, tell us how in the world Your enemies turned You into such a coward in battle. ॥ 10-76-31 ॥

निश्चय ही मेरी भाभियाँ मुझ पर हँसेंगी और कहेंगी, 'हे वीर, हमें बताओ कि संसार में तुम्हारे शत्रुओं ने तुम्हें युद्ध में इतना कायर कैसे बना दिया। ॥ १०-७६-३१ ॥

सारथिरुवाच धर्मं विजानताऽऽयुष्मन् कृतमेतन्मया विभो । सूतः कृच्छ्रगतं रक्षेद्रथिनं सारथिं रथी ॥ १०-७६-३२ ॥
The driver replied: O long-lived one, I have done this knowing full well my prescribed duty. O my Lord, the chariot driver must protect the master of the chariot when he is in danger, and the master must also protect his driver. ॥ 10-76-32 ॥

चालक ने उत्तर दिया: हे दीर्घायु, मैंने अपने निर्धारित कर्तव्य को भली-भांति जानकर यह कार्य किया है। हे भगवान, जब रथ का स्वामी खतरे में हो तो रथ चालक को उसकी रक्षा करनी चाहिए, और स्वामी को भी अपने चालक की रक्षा करनी चाहिए। ॥ १०-७६-३२ ॥

एतद्विदित्वा तु भवान् मयापोवाहितो रणात् । उपसृष्टः परेणेति मूर्च्छितो गदया हतः ॥ १०-७६-३३ ॥
With this rule in mind, I removed You from the battlefield, since You had been struck unconscious by Your enemy’s club and I thought You were seriously injured. ॥ 10-76-33 ॥

इस नियम को ध्यान में रखते हुए, मैंने आपको युद्ध के मैदान से हटा दिया, क्योंकि आप अपने दुश्मन के क्लब से बेहोश हो गए थे और मुझे लगा कि आप गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए हैं। ॥ १०-७६-३३ ॥
