यथाऽऽमयोऽङ्गे समुपेक्षितो नृभिर्नशक्यते रूढपदश्चिकित्सितुम् । यथेन्द्रियग्राम उपेक्षितस्तथा रिपुर्महान् बद्धबलो न चाल्यते ॥ १०-४-३८ ॥
As a disease, if initially neglected, becomes acute and impossible to cure, or as the senses, if not controlled at first, are impossible to control later, an enemy, if neglected in the beginning, later becomes insurmountable. ॥ 10-4-38 ॥
english translation
जिस तरह शुरू में रोग की उपेक्षा करने से वह गम्भीर तथा दु:साध्य हो जाता है या जिस तरह प्रारम्भ में नियंत्रित न करने से, बाद में इन्द्रियाँ वश में नहीं रहतीं उसी तरह यदि आरम्भ में शत्रु की उपेक्षा की जाती है, तो बाद में वह दर्जेय हो जाता है। ॥ १०-४-३८ ॥
