किं क्षेमशूरैर्विबुधैरसंयुगविकत्थनैः । रहोजुषा किं हरिणा शम्भुना वा वनौकसा । किमिन्द्रेणाल्पवीर्येण ब्रह्मणा वा तपस्यता ।। १०-४-३६ ।।

The demigods boast uselessly while away from the battlefield. Only where there is no fighting can they show their prowess. Therefore, from such demigods we have nothing to fear. As for Lord Viṣṇu, He is in seclusion in the core of the hearts of the yogīs. As for Lord Śiva, he has gone to the forest. And as for Lord Brahmā, he is always engaged in austerities and meditation. The other demigods, headed by Indra, are devoid of prowess. Therefore you have nothing to fear. ।। 10-4-36 ।।

english translation

देवतागण युद्धभूमि से दूर रहकर व्यर्थ ही डींग मारते हैं। वे वहीं अपने पराक्रम का प्रदर्शन कर सकते हैं जहाँ युद्ध नहीं होता। अतएव ऐसे देवताओं से हमें किसी प्रकार का भय नहीं है। जहाँ तक भगवान् विष्णु की बात है, वे तो केवल योगियों के हृदय में एकान्तवास करते हैं और भगवान् शिव, वे तो जंगल चले गये हैं। ब्रह्मा सदैव तपस्या तथा ध्यान में ही लीन रहते हैं। इन्द्र इत्यादि अन्य सारे देवता पराक्रमविहीन हैं। अत: आपको कोई भय नहीं है। ।। १०-४-३६ ।।
