Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: After passing the night in the city of Mathurā, the high-minded Akrūra mounted his chariot and set off for the cowherd village of Nanda Mahārāja. ।। 10-38-1 ।।

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा : महामति अक्रूर ने वह रात मथुरा में बिताई और तब अपने रथ पर सवार होकर नन्द महाराज के ग्वाल-ग्राम के लिए रवाना हुए। ।। १०-३८-१ ।।

As he traveled on the road, the great soul Akrūra felt tremendous devotion for the lotus-eyed Personality of Godhead, and thus he began to consider as follows. ।। 10-38-2 ।।

मार्ग में यात्रा करते हुए महात्मा अक्रूर को कमल-नेत्र भगवान् के प्रति अपार भक्ति का अनुभव हुआ अत: वे इस प्रकार सोचने लगे। ।। १०-३८-२ ।।
[Śrī Akrūra thought:] What pious deeds have I done, what severe austerities undergone, what worship performed or charity given so that today I will see Lord Keśava? ।। 10-38-3 ।।

[श्री अक्रूर ने सोचा]: मैंने ऐसे कौन-से शुभ कर्म किये हैं, ऐसी कौन-सी कठिन तपस्या की है, ऐसी कौन-सी पूजा की है या ऐसा कौन-सा दान दिया है, जिससे आज मैं भगवान् केशव का दर्शन करूँगा? ।। १०-३८-३ ।।

kiM mayA''caritaM bhadraM kiM taptaM paramaM tapaH | kiM vAthApyarhate dattaM yaddrakSyAmyadya kezavam || 10-38-3 ||
Since I am a materialistic person absorbed simply in sense gratification, I think it is as difficult for me to have gotten this opportunity to see Lord Uttamaḥśloka as it would be for one born a śūdra to be allowed to recite the Vedic mantras. ।। 10-38-4 ।।

चूँकि मैं विषय-भोगों में लीन रहने वाला भौतिकतावादी व्यक्ति हूँ अत: अपने लिए उत्तम श्लोक में स्तुति किए जाने वाले भगवान् का दर्शन करने का यह अवसर प्राप्त कर पाना मैं उसी तरह कठिन समझता हूँ जिस तरह शूद्र के रूप में जन्मे व्यक्ति के लिए वैदिक मंत्रों के उच्चारण करने की अनुमति प्राप्त करना होता है। ।। १०-३८-४ ।।
But enough of such thoughts! After all, even a fallen soul like me can have the chance to behold the infallible Supreme Lord, for one of the conditioned souls being swept along in the river of time may sometimes reach the shore. ।। 10-38-5 ।।

किन्तु बहुत हुआ, छोड़ो इन विचारों को, आखिर मुझ जैसे पतितात्मा को भी अच्युत भगवान् को देखने का अवसर प्राप्त हो सकता है क्योंकि काल रूपी नदी के प्रवाह में बह रहे बद्ध-आत्माओं में से कोई एक आत्मा तो कभी कभी किनारे तक पहुँच ही सकता है। ।। १०-३८-५ ।।
