नाहं तु सख्यो भजतोऽपि जन्तून् भजाम्यमीषामनुवृत्तिवृत्तये । यथाधनो लब्धधने विनष्टे तच्चिन्तयान्यन्निभृतो न वेद ॥ १०-३२-२० ॥
But the reason I do not immediately reciprocate the affection of living beings even when they worship Me, O gopīs, is that I want to intensify their loving devotion. They then become like a poor man who has gained some wealth and then lost it, and who thus becomes so anxious about it that he can think of nothing else. ॥ 10-32-20 ॥

किन्तु हे गोपियो, मैं उन जीवों के प्रति भी तत्क्षण स्नेह प्रदर्शित नहीं कर पाता जो मेरी पूजा करते हैं। इसका कारण यह है कि मैं उनकी प्रेमाभक्ति को प्रगाढ़ करना चाहता हूँ। इससे वे ऐसे निर्धन व्यक्ति के सदृश बन जाते हैं जिसने पहले कुछ सम्पत्ति प्राप्त की थी किन्तु बाद में उसे खो दिया है। इस तरह उसके बारे में वह इतना चिन्तित हो जाता है कि और कुछ सोच ही नहीं पाता। ॥ १०-३२-२० ॥
