ज्ञात्वाज्ञात्वा च कर्माणि जनोऽयमनुतिष्ठति । विदुषः कर्मसिद्धिः स्यात्तथा नाविदुषो भवेत् ॥ १०-२४-६ ॥
When people in this world perform activities, sometimes they understand what they are doing and sometimes they don’t. Those who know what they are doing achieve success in their work, whereas ignorant people do not. ॥ 10-24-6 ॥

जब इस जगत में लोग कर्म करते हैं, तो कभी तो वे समझते हैं कि वे क्या कर रहे हैं और कभी नहीं समझते। जो लोग यह जानते हैं कि वे क्या कर रहे हैं उन्हें अपने कार्य में सफलता प्राप्त होती है, जबकि अज्ञानी लोगों को सफलता नहीं मिलती। ॥ १०-२४-६ ॥

तत्र तावत्क्रियायोगो भवतां किं विचारितः । अथ वा लौकिकस्तन्मे पृच्छतः साधु भण्यताम् ॥ १०-२४-७ ॥
Such being the case, this ritualistic endeavor of yours should be clearly explained to Me. Is it a ceremony based on scriptural injunction, or simply a custom of ordinary society? ॥ 10-24-7 ॥

ऐसा होने से, आप मुझे स्पष्ट रूप से अपने इस अनुष्ठान विषयक उद्योग को बतला दें। क्या यह उत्सव शास्त्रसम्मत है या केवल समाज की एक साधारण रीति? ॥ १०-२४-७ ॥

नन्द उवाच पर्जन्यो भगवानिन्द्रो मेघास्तस्यात्ममूर्तयः । तेऽभिवर्षन्ति भूतानां प्रीणनं जीवनं पयः ॥ १०-२४-८ ॥
Nanda Mahārāja replied: The great Lord Indra is the controller of the rain. The clouds are his personal representatives, and they directly provide rainwater, which gives happiness and sustenance to all creatures. ॥ 10-24-8 ॥

नन्द महाराज ने उत्तर दिया: महान् ईश्वर इन्द्र वर्षा के नियंत्रक हैं। ये बादल उन्हीं के साक्षात् प्रतिनिधि हैं और वे ही वर्षा करते हैं जिससे समस्त प्राणियों को सुख और जीवनदान मिलता है। ॥ १०-२४-८ ॥

तं तात वयमन्ये च वार्मुचां पतिमीश्वरम् । द्रव्यैस्तद्रेतसा सिद्धैर्यजन्ते क्रतुभिर्नराः ॥ १०-२४-९ ॥
Not only we, my dear son, but also many other men worship him, the lord and master of the rain-giving clouds. We offer him grain and other paraphernalia of worship produced through his own discharge in the form of rain. ॥ 10-24-9 ॥

हे पुत्र, केवल हम ही नहीं अपितु अन्य लोग भी वर्षा करने वाले इन बादलों के स्वामी की पूजा करते हैं। हम उन्हें अन्न तथा अन्य पूजा-सामग्री भेंट करते हैं, जो वर्षा रूपी उन्हीं के वीर्य से उत्पन्न होती है। ॥ १०-२४-९ ॥

तच्छेषेणोपजीवन्ति त्रिवर्गफलहेतवे । पुंसां पुरुषकाराणां पर्जन्यः फलभावनः ॥ १०-२४-१० ॥
By accepting the remnants of sacrifices performed to Indra, people sustain their lives and accomplish the threefold aims of religiosity, economic development and sense gratification. Thus Lord Indra is the agent responsible for the fruitive success of industrious people. ॥ 10-24-10 ॥

इन्द्र के लिए सम्पन्न यज्ञों से बचे जूठन को ग्रहण करके लोग अपना जीवन-पालन करते हैं तथा धर्म, अर्थ और काम रूपी तीन लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करते हैं। इस प्रकार भगवान् इन्द्र उद्यमी पुरुषों की सकाम सफलता के लिए उत्तरदायी अभिकर्ता हैं। ॥ १०-२४-१० ॥
