कृषिवाणिज्यगोरक्षा कुसीदं तुर्यमुच्यते । वार्ता चतुर्विधा तत्र वयं गोवृत्तयोऽनिशम् ।। १०-२४-२१ ।।

The occupational duties of the vaiśya are conceived in four divisions: farming, commerce, cow protection and moneylending. Out of these, we as a community are always engaged in cow protection. ।। 10-24-21 ।।

english translation

वैश्य के वृत्तिपरक कार्य चार प्रकार के माने गये हैं—कृषि, व्यापार, गोरक्षा तथा धन का लेन-देन। हम इनमें से केवल गोरक्षा में ही सदैव लगे रहे हैं। ।। १०-२४-२१ ।।

सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति स्थित्युत्पत्त्यन्तहेतवः । रजसोत्पद्यते विश्वमन्योन्यं विविधं जगत् ।। १०-२४-२२ ।।

The causes of creation, maintenance and destruction are the three modes of nature — namely goodness, passion and ignorance. In particular, the mode of passion creates this universe and through sexual combination causes it to become full of variety. ।। 10-24-22 ।।

सृजन, पालन तथा संहार का कारण प्रकृति के तीन गुण—सतो, रजो तथा तमोगुण—हैं। विशिष्टत: रजोगुण इस ब्रह्माण्ड को उत्पन्न करता है और संभोग के द्वारा यह विविधता से पूर्ण बनता है। ।। १०-२४-२२ ।।

Impelled by the material mode of passion, the clouds pour down their rain everywhere, and by this rain all creatures gain their sustenance. What has the great Indra to do with this arrangement? ।। 10-24-23 ।।

रजोगुण द्वारा प्रेरित बादल सर्वत्र अपने जल की वर्षा करते हैं और इस वर्षा से ही सारे प्राणियों की जीविका चलती है। इस व्यवस्था से भला इन्द्र को क्या लेना-देना? ।। १०-२४-२३ ।।

My dear father, our home is not in the cities or towns or villages. Being forest dwellers, we always live in the forest and on the hills. ।। 10-24-24 ।।

हे पिताश्री, हमारे घर न तो नगरों में हैं, न कस्बों या गाँवों में हैं। वनवासी होने से हम सदैव जंगल में तथा पर्वतों पर रहते हैं। ।। १०-२४-२४ ।।

Therefore may a sacrifice for the pleasure of the cows, the brāhmaṇas and Govardhana Hill begin! With all the paraphernalia collected for worshiping Indra, let this sacrifice be performed instead. ।। 10-24-25 ।।

अत: गौवों, ब्राह्मणों तथा गोवर्धन पर्वत के आनन्द हेतु यज्ञ का शुभारम्भ हो। इन्द्र के पूजन के लिए जितनी सामग्री एकत्र की गई है उससे यह यज्ञ सम्पन्न किया जाय। ।। १०-२४-२५ ।।
