सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति स्थित्युत्पत्त्यन्तहेतवः । रजसोत्पद्यते विश्वमन्योन्यं विविधं जगत् ॥ १०-२४-२२ ॥

The causes of creation, maintenance and destruction are the three modes of nature — namely goodness, passion and ignorance. In particular, the mode of passion creates this universe and through sexual combination causes it to become full of variety. ॥ 10-24-22 ॥

english translation

सृजन, पालन तथा संहार का कारण प्रकृति के तीन गुण—सतो, रजो तथा तमोगुण—हैं। विशिष्टत: रजोगुण इस ब्रह्माण्ड को उत्पन्न करता है और संभोग के द्वारा यह विविधता से पूर्ण बनता है। ॥ १०-२४-२२ ॥
