नन्वद्धा मयि कुर्वन्ति कुशलाः स्वार्थदर्शिनः । अहैतुक्यव्यवहितां भक्तिमात्मप्रिये यथा ॥ १०-२३-२६ ॥
Certainly expert personalities, who can see their own true interest, render unmotivated and uninterrupted devotional service directly unto Me, for I am most dear to the soul. ॥ 10-23-26 ॥

निश्चय ही कुशल लोग, जो अपने असली लाभ को देख सकते हैं, वे मेरी अहैतुकी तथा अविच्छिन्न भक्ति करते हैं क्योंकि मैं आत्मा को सर्वाधिक प्रिय हूँ। ॥ १०-२३-२६ ॥

प्राणबुद्धिमनःस्वात्मदारापत्यधनादयः । यत्सम्पर्कात्प्रिया आसंस्ततः को न्वपरः प्रियः ॥ १०-२३-२७ ॥
It is only by contact with the self that one’s vital breath, intelligence, mind, friends, body, wife, children, wealth and so on are dear. Therefore what object can possibly be more dear than one’s own self? ॥ 10-23-27 ॥
english translation
आत्मा के सम्पर्क से ही जीव का प्राण, बुद्धि, मन, मित्रगण, शरीर, पत्नी, सन्तान, सम्पत्ति इत्यादि उसे प्रिय लगते हैं। अतएव अपने आप से बढक़र कौन सी वस्तु अधिक प्रिय हो सकती है? ॥ १०-२३-२७ ॥

तद्यात देवयजनं पतयो वो द्विजातयः । स्वसत्रं पारयिष्यन्ति युष्माभिर्गृहमेधिनः ॥ १०-२३-२८ ॥
You should thus return to the sacrificial arena, because your husbands, the learned brāhmaṇas, are householders and need your assistance to finish their respective sacrifices. ॥ 10-23-28 ॥

अतएव तुम लोग यज्ञस्थल को लौट जाओ क्योंकि तुम्हारे पति, जो कि विद्वान ब्राह्मण हैं, गृहस्थ हैं और उन्हें अपने अपने यज्ञ सम्पन्न करने के लिए तुम्हारे सहयोग की आवश्यकता है। ॥ १०-२३-२८ ॥

पत्न्य ऊचुः मैवं विभोऽर्हति भवान् गदितुं नृशंसं सत्यं कुरुष्व निगमं तव पादमूलम् । प्राप्ता वयं तुलसिदामपदावसृष्टं केशैर्निवोढुमतिलङ्घ्य समस्तबन्धून् ॥ १०-२३-२९ ॥
The wives of the brāhmaṇas replied: O almighty one, please do not speak such cruel words. Rather, You should fulfill Your promise that You always reciprocate with Your devotees in kind. Now that we have attained Your lotus feet, we simply wish to remain here in the forest so we may carry upon our heads the garlands of tulasī leaves that fall from Your lotus feet. We are ready to give up all material relationships. ॥ 10-23-29 ॥

ब्राह्मणपत्नियों ने उत्तर दिया: हे विभो, आप ऐसे कटु वचन न कहें। आपको चाहिए कि आप अपने उस वचन को पूरा करें कि आप अपने भक्तों को सदैव प्रतिदान करते हैं। चूँकि अब हम आपके चरणों को प्राप्त हैं, अत: हम इतना ही चाहती हैं कि हम वन में ही रहती जाएँ जिससे हम तुलसी-दल की उन मालाओं को अपने सिरों पर धारण कर सकें जिन्हें आप उपेक्षापूर्वक अपने चरणकमलों से ठुकरा देते हैं। हम अपने सारे भौतिक सम्बन्ध त्यागने को तैयार हैं। ॥ १०-२३-२९ ॥

गृह्णन्ति नो न पतयः पितरौ सुता वा न भ्रातृबन्धुसुहृदः कुत एव चान्ये । तस्माद्भवत्प्रपदयोः पतितात्मनां नो नान्या भवेद्गतिररिन्दम तद्विधेहि ॥ १०-२३-३० ॥
Our husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, other relatives and friends will no longer take us back, and how could anyone else be willing to give us shelter? Therefore, since we have thrown ourselves at Your lotus feet and have no other destination, please, O chastiser of enemies, grant our desire. ॥ 10-23-30 ॥

अब हमारे पति, माता-पिता, पुत्र, भाई, अन्य सम्बन्धी तथा मित्र हमें वापस नहीं लेंगे और अन्य कोई हमें किस तरह शरण देने को तैयार हो सकेगा? क्योंकि अब हमने अपने आपको आपके चरणकमलों पर पटक दिया है और हमारे कोई अन्य गन्तव्य नहीं है अतएव हे अरिन्दम, हमारी इच्छापूरी कीजिये। ॥ १०-२३-३० ॥
