श्रीशुक उवाच कालिन्द्यां कालियस्यासीध्रदः कश्चिद्विषाग्निना । श्रप्यमाणपया यस्मिन् पतन्त्युपरिगाः खगाः ॥ १०-१६-४ ॥
Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Within the river Kālindī [Yamunā] was a lake inhabited by the serpent Kāliya, whose fiery poison constantly heated and boiled its waters. Indeed, the vapors thus created were so poisonous that birds flying over the contaminated lake would fall down into it. ॥ 10-16-4 ॥

श्री शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा : कालिन्दी (यमुना) नदी के भीतर एक सरोवर (कुंड) था जिसमें कालिय नाग रह रहा था जिसके अग्नि-तुल्य विष से उसका जल निरन्तर उबलता रहता था। इस तरह से उत्पन्न भाप इतनी विषैली होती थी कि दूषित सरोवर के ऊपर से उडऩेवाले पक्षी उसमें गिर पड़ते थे। ॥ १०-१६-४ ॥
