मृत्युर्बुद्धिमतापोह्यो यावद्बुद्धिबलोदयम् । यद्यसौ न निवर्तेत नापराधोऽस्ति देहिनः ॥ १०-१-४८ ॥
As long as he has intelligence and bodily strength, an intelligent person must try to avoid death. This is the duty of every embodied person. But if death cannot be avoided in spite of one’s endeavors, a person facing death commits no offense. ॥ 10-1-48 ॥

बुद्धिमान मनुष्य को चाहिए कि जब तक बुद्धि तथा शारीरिक पराक्रम रहे, तब तक मृत्यु से बचने का प्रयास करता रहे। हर देहधारी का यही कर्तव्य है। यदि उद्यम करने पर भी मृत्यु को टाला नहीं जा सके, तो मृत्यु को वरण करने वाला मनुष्य अपराधी नहीं है। ॥ १०-१-४८ ॥
