व्रजंस्तिष्ठन् पदैकेन यथैवैकेन गच्छति । यथा तृणजलूकैवं देही कर्मगतिं गतः ॥ १०-१-४० ॥
Just as a person traveling on the road rests one foot on the ground and then lifts the other, or as a worm on a vegetable transfers itself to one leaf and then gives up the previous one, the conditioned soul takes shelter of another body and then gives up the one he had before. ॥ 10-1-40 ॥

जिस तरह रास्ते पर चलते हुए मनुष्य अपना एक पाँव जमीन पर टेकता है और फिर दूसरे पाँव को उठाता है या जिस तरह वनस्पति का एक कीड़ा पहले एक पत्ती पर बैठता है और फिर इसे छोड़ कर दूसरी पत्ती पर जाता है उसी तरह जब बद्धजीव दूसरे शरीर का आश्रय ग्रहण करता है तब पिछले शरीर को त्याग देता है। ॥ १०-१-४० ॥
