With profound sincerity, I paid homage to the entire assembly of Brahmanas and other learned individuals."' ॥ 1-55-1 ॥

After them, sixteen kings of the Kaṅkas will rule and will be known for their excessive greed. ॥ 12-1-29 ॥

Freed thus from all doubts, one gives up fruitive activities. ॥ 11-29-18 ॥

    विधिना विहिते कुण्डे मेखलागर्तवेदिभिः । अग्निमाधाय परितः समूहेत्पाणिनोदितम् ॥ ११-२७-३६ ॥vidhinA vihite kuNDe mekhalAgartavedibhiH । agnimAdhAya paritaH samUhetpANinoditam ॥ 11-27-36 ॥In an arena constructed according to scriptural injunctions, the devotee should perform a fire sacrifice, utilizing the sacred belt, the sacrificial pit and the altar mound. When igniting the sacrificial fire, the devotee should bring it to a blaze with wood piled up by his own hands. ॥ 11-27-36 ॥

    वस्त्रोपवीताभरणपत्रस्रग्गन्धलेपनैः । अलङ्कुर्वीत सप्रेम मद्भक्तो मां यथोचितम् ॥ ११-२७-३२ ॥vastropavItAbharaNapatrasraggandhalepanaiH । alaGkurvIta saprema madbhakto mAM yathocitam ॥ 11-27-32 ॥My devotee should then lovingly decorate Me with clothing, a brāhmaṇa thread, various ornaments, marks of tilaka and garlands, and he should anoint My body with fragrant oils, all in the prescribed manner. ॥ 11-27-32 ॥

    न तथा तप्यते विद्धः पुमान् बाणैस्तु मर्मगैः । यथा तुदन्ति मर्मस्था ह्यसतां परुषेषवः ॥ ११-२३-३ ॥na tathA tapyate viddhaH pumAn bANaistu marmagaiH । yathA tudanti marmasthA hyasatAM paruSeSavaH ॥ 11-23-3 ॥Sharp arrows which pierce one’s chest and reach the heart do not cause as much suffering as the arrows of harsh, insulting words that become lodged within the heart when spoken by uncivilized men. ॥ 11-23-3 ॥
