विश्वामित्रवचः श्रुत्वा कथान्ते रघुनंदन । उवाच परमप्रीतो मुनिं दीप्तमिवानलम् ॥ १-३९-१
Immensely pleased with the words of Viswamitra, to the ascetic flaming bright like fire, Rama spoke towards the end of the narration: . - ॥ 1-39-1॥
english translation
vizvAmitravacaH zrutvA kathAnte raghunaMdana । uvAca paramaprIto muniM dIptamivAnalam ॥ 1-39-1
hk transliteration by Sanscriptश्रोतुमिच्छामि भद्रं ते विस्तरेण कथामिमाम् । पूर्वजो मे कथं ब्रह्मन् यज्ञं वै समुपाहरत् ॥ १-३९-२
- "O Brahman I wish to listen in detail as to how my ancestors made preparations for the sacrifice? Prosperity to you". ॥ 1-39-2॥
english translation
zrotumicchAmi bhadraM te vistareNa kathAmimAm । pUrvajo me kathaM brahman yajJaM vai samupAharat ॥ 1-39-2
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा कौतूहलसमन्वितः । विश्वामित्रस्तु काकुत्स्थमुवाच प्रहसन्निव ॥ १-३९-३
On listening the words of Rama that were inclusive of his inquisitiveness, Sage Vishvamitra smilingly spoke to the descendent of Kakutstha - ॥ 1-39-3॥
english translation
tasya tadvacanaM zrutvA kautUhalasamanvitaH । vizvAmitrastu kAkutsthamuvAca prahasanniva ॥ 1-39-3
hk transliteration by Sanscriptश्रूयतां विस्तरो राम सगरस्य महात्मनः । शंकरश्वशुरो नाम हिमवानिति विश्रुतः ॥ १-३९-४
- "oh ! Rama, let the episode of the great-souled Sagara be listened vividly." The father-in-law of god Shankara who was well-known by the name of Himavan . - ॥ 1-39-4॥
english translation
zrUyatAM vistaro rAma sagarasya mahAtmanaH । zaMkarazvazuro nAma himavAniti vizrutaH ॥ 1-39-4
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविंध्यपर्वतमासाद्य निरीक्षेते परस्परम् । तयोर्मध्ये प्रवृत्तोऽभूद्यज्ञः स पुरुषोत्तम॥ १-३९-५
- sets eyes on Mt. Vindhya, which stands as loftily as Himalayas, and those two mountains peered at each other. Oh ! best of men, the sacrifice took place in the region in between these two mountains. ॥ 1-39-5॥

viMdhyaparvatamAsAdya nirIkSete parasparam । tayormadhye pravRtto'bhUdyajJaH sa puruSottama॥ 1-39-5
