यौवराज्येन संयोक्तुमैच्छत् प्रीत्या महीपतिः । तस्याभिषेकसंभारान् दृष्ट्वा भार्याथ कैकयी ॥ १-१-२१
He ॥ king Dasharatha ॥ affectionately desired to endow with regent-hood to Shri Rama. Then seeing the arrangements for the anointment of Rama as crown-prince, Kaikeyi, the dear wife and a queen of Dasaratha, ॥ 1-1-21॥

yauvarAjyena saMyoktumaicchat prItyA mahIpatiH । tasyAbhiSekasaMbhArAn dRSTvA bhAryAtha kaikayI ॥ 1-1-21
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपुर्वं दत्तवरा देवी वरमेनमयाचत । विवासनं च रामस्य भरतस्याभिषेचनम् ॥ १-१-२२
She ॥ Queen Kaikeyi॥ solicited boons that were once accorded to her by King Dasharatha, for the banishment of Rama and anointment of Bharata as boons. ॥ 1-1-22॥

purvaM dattavarA devI varamenamayAcata । vivAsanaM ca rAmasya bharatasyAbhiSecanam ॥ 1-1-22
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस सत्यवचनाद् राजा धर्मपाशेन संयतः । विवासयामास सुतं रामं दशरथः प्रियम् ॥ १-१-२३
Bound by his true plighted word and by the noose of righteousness that king Dasharatha exiled his dear son Rama to forests. ॥ 1-1-23॥
english translation
sa satyavacanAd rAjA dharmapAzena saMyataH । vivAsayAmAsa sutaM rAmaM dazarathaH priyam ॥ 1-1-23
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस जगाम वनं वीरः प्रतिज्ञामनुपालयन् । पितुर्वचननिर्देशात् कैकेय्याः प्रियकारणात् ॥ १-१-२४
That warrior Shri Rama went to forest for pleasing Kaikeyi, and as directed by his father, and to follow his father's word of honour. ॥ 1-1-24॥

sa jagAma vanaM vIraH pratijJAmanupAlayan । piturvacananirdezAt kaikeyyAH priyakAraNAt ॥ 1-1-24
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतं व्रजन्तं प्रियो भ्राता लक्ष्मणोऽनुजगाम ह । स्नेहाद्विनयसम्पन्नः सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनः ॥ १-१-२५
While that Rama was going on exile, Lakshmana, endowed with humbleness, and augmentor of his mother Sumitra's joy, and a loving and a dear brother to Rama, followed him out of affection, - ॥ 1-1-25॥

taM vrajantaM priyo bhrAtA lakSmaNo'nujagAma ha । snehAdvinayasampannaH sumitrAnandavardhanaH ॥ 1-1-25
