पुरा राम महाबाहो महाबलपराक्रम । रूपमासीन्ममा चिन्त्यं त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतम् ॥ ३-७१-१

sanskrit

Oh ! long-armed, mighty and powerful Rama in the past I was handsome and inconceivable to all the three worlds. ॥ 3-71-1॥

english translation

purA rAma mahAbAho mahAbalaparAkrama । rUpamAsInmamA cintyaM triSu lokeSu vizrutam ॥ 3-71-1

यथा सोमस्य शक्रस्य सूर्यस्य च यथा वपुः । सोऽहं रूपमिदं कृत्वा लोकवित्रासनं महत् ॥ ३-७१-२

With the body just as the Moon or Indra or the Sun. With my appearance, I was a great nuisance to the world . - ॥ 3-71-2॥

english translation

yathA somasya zakrasya sUryasya ca yathA vapuH । so'haM rUpamidaM kRtvA lokavitrAsanaM mahat ॥ 3-71-2

ऋषीन्वनगतान्राम त्रासयामि ततस्ततः । ततस्स्थूलशिरा नाम महर्षिः कोपितो मया ॥ ३-७१-३

सञ्चिन्वन्विविधं वन्यं रूपेणानेन धर्षितः । तेनाहमुक्तः प्रेक्ष्यैवं घोरशापाभिधायिना ॥ ३-७१-४

- whom I assaulted with my this appearance, while he was collecting food in the forest. Seeing me he pronounced a dreadful curse on me saying - ॥ 3-71-4॥

एतदेव नृशंसं ते रूपमस्तु विगर्हितम् । स मया याचितः क्रुद्धश्शापस्योन्तो भवेदिति ॥ ३-७१-५

- 'You will get a cruel, despicable form.'. When I begged that enraged sage as, 'how the curse would come to an end . - ॥ 3-71-5॥

etadeva nRzaMsaM te rUpamastu vigarhitam । sa mayA yAcitaH kruddhazzApasyonto bhavediti ॥ 3-71-5
