तच्छृत्वा राक्षसेन्द्रस्य वाक्यं वाक्यविशारदः । प्रत्युवाच महाप्राज्ञो मारीचो राक्षसेश्वरम् ॥ ३-३७-१
Having heard the words of Ravana, lord of the demons, wise Maricha who was also an eloquent speaker replied ॥ 3-37-1॥
english translation
tacchRtvA rAkSasendrasya vAkyaM vAkyavizAradaH । pratyuvAca mahAprAjJo mArIco rAkSasezvaram ॥ 3-37-1
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसुलभाः पुरुषा राजन्सततं प्रियवादिनः । अप्रियस्य तु पथ्यस्य वक्ता श्रोता च दुर्लभः ॥ ३-३७-२
- 'Oh ! king, it is always easy to find men who speak pleasing words, but it is difficult to get a speaker and a listener who use words unpleasant (to the ears) but beneficial (in life). ॥ 3-37-2॥
english translation
sulabhAH puruSA rAjansatataM priyavAdinaH । apriyasya tu pathyasya vaktA zrotA ca durlabhaH ॥ 3-37-2
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन नूनं बुध्यसे रामं महावीर्यं गुणोन्नतम् । अयुक्तचारश्चपलो महेन्द्रवरुणोपमम् ॥ ३-३७-३
You are fickleminded. You have employed no spy ( who could have told you the truth about Rama's character). Rama is very brave and virtuous comparable to Indra and Varuna. Surely you are not able to know what Rama is. ॥ 3-37-3॥
english translation
na nUnaM budhyase rAmaM mahAvIryaM guNonnatam । ayuktacArazcapalo mahendravaruNopamam ॥ 3-37-3
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअपि स्वस्ति भवेत्तात सर्वेषां भुवि रक्षसाम् । अपि रामो नासङ्क्रुद्धः कुर्याल्लोकमराक्षसम् ॥ ३-३७-४
Oh ! dear may there be good to all the demons in the world. If Rama gets enraged, he will make this world demon less. ॥ 3-37-4॥
english translation
api svasti bhavettAta sarveSAM bhuvi rakSasAm । api rAmo nAsaGkruddhaH kuryAllokamarAkSasam ॥ 3-37-4
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअपि ते जीवितान्ताय नोत्पन्ना जनकात्मजा । अपि सीतानिमित्तं च न भवेद्व्यसनं मम ॥ ३-३७-५
Hope the daughter of Janaka is not born to put an end to your life. Hope I will not face any disaster on account of Sita. ॥ 3-37-5॥

api te jIvitAntAya notpannA janakAtmajA । api sItAnimittaM ca na bhavedvyasanaM mama ॥ 3-37-5
