अथ पञ्चवटीं गच्छन्नन्तरा रघुनन्दनः । आससाद महाकायं गृध्रं भीमपराक्रमम् ॥ ३-१४-१
On the way to Panchavati, Rama, the delight of the Raghu race, met a vulture with a huge body and fearful strength. [3-14-1]
english translation
तं दृष्ट्वा तौ महाभागौ वटस्थं रामलक्ष्मणौ । मेनाते राक्षसं पक्षिं ब्रुवाणौ को भवानिति ॥ ३-१४-२
Seeing the bird on the banyan tree, venerable Rama and Lakshmana mistook him for a demon and enquired who he was. [3-14-2]

स तौ मधुरया वाचा सौम्यया प्रीणयन्निव । उवाच वत्स मां विद्धि वयस्यं पितुरात्मनः ॥ ३-१४-३
With a sweet, pleasing, and gentle voice he said to both of them, Oh ! dear know me to be a friend of your father. [3-14-3]

स तं पितृसखं बुद्ध्वा पूजयामास राघवः । स तस्य कुलमव्यग्रमथ पप्रच्छ नाम च ॥ ३-१४-४
Rama knew he was a friend of his father. So he enquired in a cool, composed voice his name and his lineage. [3-14-4]

रामस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वभूतसमुद्भवम् । आचचक्षे द्विजस्तस्मै कुलमात्मानमेव च ॥ ३-१४-५
On hearing Rama's words, the bird started narrating the origin of all beings including his own family [3-14-5]
